I've played the game for probably 5 years, but mostly casually. In all honesty I never played for the game, mostly for the community. It was something to do while I talked to people. Nowadays I've moved onto counter strike though I play once in a blue moon. (I started RS back in the RSC days...was basically the only game available to me) As far as I can tell though, Jagex doesn't care for the players who have been around for a while anymore, so I feel no sense of loss being that I don't really play anymore. The game has mostly died for me lol

I played for a while in middle school and then realized that most of the players are "Ub3r l33t PK0rz zomg!!1!1!11" (10-year-olds) or creepy middle-aged guys living in their parents basement.

For 1 year I didn't hook up with any female chromosomes because I was playing Diablo 2.

I am guessing Runescape is the same thing.

I started in 2002 and play on and off since. I have a friend who I met this year who's a member, and it turns out all the annoying n00bz are in the freeworlds. I'm considering getting membership because is costs about as much as a pint of ice creme, and I get like 3 of those a month and shouldn't. And if I did I actually know someone in real life now I can play with. I also found out I don't play like most people. You see, I don't grind my way up levels. I tried after a recommendation, and just stopped. I feel bad for anyone who plays Runescape like a grinder, especially with mining and smithing. So I've most definitely had a life with very little Runscape as part of it for the past 6 years, while still following what's happening updatewise and REALLLY slowly raising my level. After 6 years I was at level 60. Then after a month of playing with a friend I actually knew, I got to 68 :/.

Anyways, I recommend trying Runescape in about 1-3 years (as it's constantly improving), though I couldn't hurt to try whenever. Most people find it addicting though, just a warning.

The only thing that might have been worth doing on RS used to be player killing. Now that it's gone, RS has no point. In fact, I stumbled upon the updates they made some time ago just now (was gone for about 400+ days), and it's obvious that RS can say goodbye to 1/2 of its players.

If anyone wants my old account, he's level 85 but has no items because I gave them to my friend when I quit so I wouldn't be tempted to start playing again...

yeah, that'll happen anytime now...

It really was an awful decision though. They say they're still working on the problem (what problem was there??), and pretty soon they're going to introduce teampk. for now though, at least you can still do bounty hunter and clan wars. My biggest gist about no pking is those darned ghosts, which instead of maybe getting attacked by a pker, you're most certainly going to be attacked and probably killed by a ghost.

The thing about RS is it keeps updating. no matter what you think of it, from year to year is gets better. The PKer thing is the first really dumb and pointless update they've made. The tade limit is frustrating but makes a whole lot of sense at least. A cool recent update though was summoning. you can summon creatures as pets or to fight with you. It's kind of like having Pokemon for RS.
I just love when people say something is crap though. With RS that either means you're a graphics whore, can't stand point and click gameplay, don't like mmos, or don't like having to play with n00bs. You can fix the last one, but you have to get members, and the first one is fixing itself slowly.

I have a Runescape account, and I play every now and then, but only occasionally.

I'm kinda in the opposite boat as Insanity Complex, I play mostly for the game because to be honest, I kinda dislike a lot of the community there. The kind of people who walk up to you and are all like "phr33 st00f pl0x??????" or "lol i pwn j00 n00b my m4in is lvl 100 j00 nub!!!!1" I know not everyone is like that... But in RS, it seems 4/5 of the people are... I often play with the chat turned off, heh. Course I'm in free-to-play so that might have something to do with it, I'm not sure if the payed version if much better though.

Anyway, I think the whole reason for the new updates was cause there were a lot of people who'd farm gold and sell it for real money, and somehow or other that was making the RS devs lose money. So they made it virtually impossible to trade or kill other people or do anything to give/take a large worth of gold or items to other people. Kinda crappy, but I prefer the ghosts to the annoying player-killers myself.

I hate runescape because of how arrogant and annoying the losers are who play it.

Yeah...the community was better, at least imo, during the RSC days. But after becoming a member and a part of a clan(which my dad and step-mom are also a part of), I re-found the good community, on a smaller scale. Majority of the clan members are adults. I'm still part of that clan but mostly on the forum administration side, since I rarely play anymore.

Quote: "My biggest gist about no pking is those darned ghosts, which instead of maybe getting attacked by a pker, you're most certainly going to be attacked and probably killed by a ghost."

I definitely miss pking and high stake dueling...they were the only particularly risky aspects of the game...all the dangerous npc's you can fight have distinct methods, and you can easily beat them up at my level(currently cb 100, 101 if you count my 4 summoning levels). The 'replacements' for pkers in the wild are a joke. There are multiple problems with them.

1- For lower level players, they are ridiculously tough
2- For higher level players, exactly the opposite
3- They can teleport away from a fight at lvl 50 wilderness...cmon now...that's just ridiculous
4- They very rarely drop ANYTHING if you best them

My rs activity dropped out mostly after the trade and pk updates. I couldn't give anything to friends, and I couldn't challenge myself in the wilderness...so yeah...

At least it seems that Jagex isn't doing so much things behind players backs as of lately, I honestly think truthscape has a lot to do with that fact

Jagex is still working on how to deal with the trading system and Pking so that it doesn't shaft honest players as much. They showed a progress bar of how finished those aspects were, and it was barely started. I suspect there will be a lot of changes with the trading and pking until there is something that satisfies most people. I guessing more will be done with pking though, as the new system for that is far more broken than the item trading, I think. Like I said, I can actually understand them wanting to stop real world trading, and having to find a solution that doesn't take half their staff or some large number. I just don't get what was wrong with pking though. Nothing could have happened to you unless you go into the wilderness...

I'm still used to losing everything when I die, so I haven't let myself die in over 3 years. Now with this whole grave system, I could probably go into the wilderness with all my armour, but what's the fun in that?

In WoW, the quests can basically be summed up as "escort this person from location x to location y", "kill x enemies of type y", "kill enemies of type x until you obtain y amount of item z" etc. At least the quests in Runescape are a tad bit more creative.

WoW has better graphics (no duh) and is more group oriented.

Both have way too many 8 year olds that are incredibly cool because they can talk like this:
Quote: "phr33 st00f pl0x?????? / lol i pwn j00 n00b my m4in is lvl 100 j00 nub!!!!1"

(When I said 'incredibly cool", the 'cool' was in massive sarcasm quotes)

WoW has class balance issues, Runescape lacks classes (not necessarily a bad thing).

Neither of them has decent support.

Both have been going downhill IMO, which is why I quit them both quite a while ago.

exactly. It was "collect 20 of these" etc. SUPER tedious.

Mr "Makealotofsmoke", your maturity level never ceases to amaze me.

Anyways. The concept of runescape is a lot more appealing than runescape itself. I played it for a few years when it just came out... around 1997 I think.

Funny thing is my friend's brother who initially got me into it, started BEFORE I started and still plays now, hes 19 xD. But yeah, last I remember you couldn't go anywhere without someone trying to scam you, become you're intarweb soulmate to get some free stuff, or sneak you into the wooded area to PK you.

My brother played it for a few years as well, but not for the fun, for money. Around when I started, he started his own ebay store selling runescape stuff, one of the first to do it, eventually he got a professional site up and hired people to advertise for him xD.

That does not make any sense...if you want to stop sweat shops then wouldn't you want players to kill the farmers?

In my opinion, Runescape is hardly a so-called game. Even the name is stupid: Run-escape (which is what I would do). I play more real games now.
