I just suddenly noticed this when programming. I have no direct x windows open or anything. It is on top of everything else, and is not attached to a particular window... There are no unusual processes running either. It could be a graphics card issue, but if it was, surely it would not show up on a print screen??? (See attached)

Looks like the shadow from some kind of control. This happens to me occasionally.

If it keeps happening to you just reset your computer. Should go away. Just a little windows bug.

The same bug that happens when you are dragging icons and the OS does freeze. After the coma, Windows can forget to remove the ghost icons from the orverlay.
