Hello!
On the frosty hour of Yestermorn... I found myself holding up a small corner shop, with nothing but a wooden spoon and a crude drawing of Tom Hanks.
I now find myself with the necessary funds to purchase a computer box... and the intricate cogs, wheels and pulley systems to put in said box.
After an arduous search on the inter-web, I have comprised a list of shiny shiny parts to build a fine system.

What I would like to know is, Will they all work together?

The list:
Processor:
Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 Socket 775 3GHz (1333MHz) L2 12MB
Link

Motherboard:
Asus motherboard P5E LGA775 Intel X38 DDR2 ATX
Link

Memory:
OCZ 4GB Kit (2x2GB) DDR2 1000MHz/PC2-8000 Memory REAPER X EDITION ENHANCED BANDWITH CL5
Link

Case:
ThermalTake Armour LCS case silver with window + Liquid cooling system VE2000SWA
Link

PSU:
Coolermaster PSU Real Power M700 700W
Link

HDD:
Samsung 500GB SATA II 300 Hard Disk Drive 16MB cache 7200rpm oem
Link

DVD Drive:
Samsung DVD RW SH-S203 BEBN SATA Black 20x +/-R/RW RAM DL oem
Link

Also I'd like to know if it will be possible to overclock the CPU with this hardware, I know the QX9650 overclocks well on air, just will the motherboard cope?

Thanks for your time!

Also the Memory is PC2-8000, but the motherboard only supports:

Supported RAM Speed
PC2-6400, PC2-5300, PC2-9600, PC2-8500

Will this be compatible?

Not sure about the RAM but everything else is compatible. Yeah, it will OC pretty nicely, ASUS makes (and selles) some nice stuff. I would look at some different RAM.

What about the video card?

Where is the video card?

Anyways I dunno as been ages since made my own. Personally I would go to Overclockers.co.uk and see what they spec up for an overclocked effort. Something like this:-
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-005-OC

Cheers

I recently bought a new graphics card because my old one burnt out. Its only an ATi X1650 pro.

Thanks for the link, I will scope out the site. [edit] Had a look and I can say I'm definitely tempted, the problem is though i'm forced to buy it with a Graphics card, which I don't want at the moment. Also there are so many people complaining about crappy parts and problems with the PC for so many different companies, that I just wanted to try do it myself.

Yeh, the Ram is the only one that has stumped me. I'd like to keep the Ram that I've found up there, But I'm having trouble finding a motherboard that specifically caters for the PC2-8000.

Hopefully I'd like to push the CPU to 4GHz or more. Thats why I've chose a case with water cooling.

Ah, what I meant was look at what their specifications are and copy the bits they use. I mean their stuff comes overclocked (Quad core effort linked to is running at 3.3Ghz with no worries I believe) so by copying what they used you should be pretty safe.

Cheers

He said just the standard one that comes with his motherboard, but he added a decent fan, also it is 2 heatsinks... one on top of the other.
He overclocked a 2.67Ghz Quad to 5GHz.

Never built my own but I've replaced parts. Just make sure you release the static electricity from your body before you touch any of the parts.

I'm sorry, but everything you say now... it just doesn't sound right

Yeh I was going to get one of those wrist band majoggers (/not real word)

Also i'm not going to overclock until I'm certain I can do it safely (ie i'm going to mess around with the old PC first)

Yeah, with this rig, you wont really need to overclock.

Then you did it wrong/too far. Don't OC by 1000Mhz at a time.

by glancing at the parts, they look like they would fit together quite nicely. no guarantees though

No, I did it at 4mhz at a time, but the guide said little white dots would appear soon. They didn't, the pc suddenly crashed.
Same with the CPU.

I built my first one(I'm using it now) and it's honestly not that hard, though I did need a few cable converters. I used this tutorial.

Just a warning, the graphics card usually doesn't give much of a boost when over-clocked. Go ahead and do it if you want to take the risk, but remember that the cost will probably outweigh any gain.

Yeh its pretty fast. A definite major improvement from my old:
P4 3.2GHz
DDR400 1GB
Ati X600 pro graphics.

I'm pretty happy with it!
