When I bought my PS2 it came with a demo disc that included YA Basic; a form of BASIC ported to the PS2. I haven't been able to find much documentation on YA Basic and none at all for the PS2 version.
Does anyone have any documentation for the language?

I was also wondering whether there was a new version for the PS3. If anyone has any info please post.

YA BASIC is harder to work with than DB, I even had to code my own routine to get input values for individual buttons! Another reason why it is hard is I haven't got a USB keyboard so I'm using the PS3 controller to type with. I bought a keyboard but it needed to install windows drivers to run How can I find a cheap keyboard that doesn't need drivers?

Thanks

I thought that you could plug a keyboard into the PS2?

You could just boot to Linux and write in Perl, Python or C. There are several available now but my preference is PSUbuntu:
http://psubuntu.com/
You can install it to a partition on your PS3 hard disk if you want to or simply boot to the disk and run a Live version instead.

Any 'standard' USB keyboard should work. Any that require special drivers probably wouldn't be supported by your PC's BIOS anyway and should be avoided. I use a MadCatz wireless thumbpad with mine which was pretty cheap and works with my PS3 and PC.

Interesting... Does that work comfortably when attached to the six axis? I noticed the USB thingy, it doesn't use Bluetooth then? What kind of power does it use and how long does it last?

Yes, it sits nicely just above the sixaxis and is great for entering names and chat messages there. If I intend to enter lots of text, for example when using Linux, I tend to unclip it and hold it on its own as I find I can type quicker that way. For the price it is excellent (currently £14.99 from Play.com - UK). There is a dongle which sits in one of your USB ports so doesn't require any special drivers at all. I have had mine since October 2007 and its still on its first pair of AAA batteries.

Does it use BT or is it IR? Like could you use it for a mobile phone?

Its RF so doesn't need pairing or direct line of sight. It just works straight out of the box with PS3, PC and 360, but not with any mobile phones due to the dongle required. I haven't tested how far away you can use it but I use mine about 5-6 meters from my PS3 with no problems at all. The manual on the MadCatz site says it will work up to 9-10 meters away and it reckons the batteries last for about 85 hours of use. Even if you accidentally leave the keyboard on (there's a little switch on the side) it goes to sleep after 10 minutes of inactivity and wakes up when you press a key. Its a godsend when browsing the Web (entering URL's, sending emails and typing into forms).
The only thing I have found missing so far which would be useful is a 'Print Screen' key, which you can use in 'Resistance:FoM' for saving screenshots during gameplay to your hard drive. Not a major problem though. You do get F1-F10 keys and all your symbols etc.
