No, because any free software wouldn't compare to the features in something like DB. It would be a waste of time to pick up a freebie, if there is one, thinking it would be a stepping stone.

If you have db/dbp why would you need other game making software?
If it's free it's probebly crap,I'm sorry to say.

Just stick to darkbasic(or professional if that's what you have), for you'll be happy with your results if you stick with it for a couple of months.

I myself do an hour a day, since I got dbp, and am learning at a tremendous speed.So at least pace yourself with 15-30 minutes a day.
Trust me on this one.
