A year back or so, we were having a discussion in some thread or another about the bands we're in or have been in before, and I mentioned I had a video of three songs from my last band, Piso Mojado. But YouTube wouldn't let me upload the video on the first attempt, and other stuff grabbed my attention, and so the video never made it online. Well, yesterday (with Agent Dink's help) I was able to convert the videos into a format that Windows Movie Maker likes, and this morning I spliced them up into three songs and cleaned them up a bit. Finally, I can show Piso Mojado to the world .

All of these songs were filmed on a MiniDV camera in October of 2001. Conversion from mpeg to wmv saw a massive drop in video quality, and then the post to YouTube decreased the quality even further, so the drums sound way too punchy... did my best with it though . The band is Phil on guitar, Ivy singing, Colin on bass, and I'm on drums. If you're a drummer, you'll appreciate how annoyed I was with my hats stand, the pedal kept locking up during that show and it completely threw off my hats timing . Hence me never using Mapex gear again lol.

Harbours & Criminals - Shot in the far back corner of our recording studio, we were having some trouble with our audio equipment and decided to record the song on the camera's mic for timing analysis, hence all of us looking genuinely disinterested in playing lol. We'd done a live show earlier that day so everyone was pretty tired, still a great song though hehe.

Iron Me (aka Irony) - One of my three favorite songs that we did, the timing scheme is as perfect as we could get lol. This song is from a live show at Binghamton University, in the old student union. A friend in a different band asked us to do a show with them for some benefit of some sort, and we figured "eh, it's good to play live." The show was at 9:30am, much to the dismay of everyone in the group. We had a pretty good local following, especially amongst college students, but any "fans" we had were either asleep or in class that early, lol. Anyway, that wasn't even the worst part! We showed up and started setting up, and suddenly children started filing in... no one had told us this, but the show was some children's benefit and the kids themselves were going to see it, lol. So poor Ivy had to spot-edit the curses from our songs and we were all terrified that we'd give these poor kids nightmares and/ or headaches, lol. It was all made up for though when a little kid asked me after the show if he could play drums like me someday, one of those Kodak moments .

Shakedown - I always loved the song "The Ocean" by Led Zeppelin, and you can definitely spot that influence in this song. The song had a lot of drug references in it (obviously, look at the title lol), so Ivy had to bleep herself out quite a bit for the kiddies .

We have a MiniDV recording of the show, but now I don't have a camera to extract them into my PC with. But hopefully I'll get my hands on one and I can upload more of our songs for everyone. I can't wait to upload our serious songs, like Clipping Wings, Cyber Sex, Simple Things, etc., and our goofy fun songs, like "Horton Hears a Stray Cat," "Chipmunk," and "Sparkles the Homosexual Drugdealer" lol, the latter group being songs we only played for ourselves to wind down after gigs or recording sessions. Anyway, I'm just rambling now, so eh, I hope you guys dig these, let me know what you think. I'm teetering on starting a new band for a fun little side project, I guess these videos are up now to sort of validate the concept lol.

I like it except for the singing. Sounds like she's just saying things and shouting rather than carrying a note.

Maybe it's a [something]-core band j/k
And BTW what is th genre of the band? (youtube is slow on this PC, so I don't want to open the movies)...

Yeah, she was a nervous one, didn't like crowds and stuff, and I think she hated being on camera just as much. During rehearsals and recording sessions she was brilliant, but when she got on stage she always compensated for nervousness with yelling, lol.

I was hoping someone could tell me, lol. It's a pretty different sound I think, sort of jazzy experimental rock I guess. Some of our songs, like Iron Me, were heavy on effects and used soundscaping to no end, while other songs, like Harbours or Shakedown, were sort of jazzy but with a bite. Some songs were heavy with jazz (like the song Cyber Sex, which I'd kill to have on my computer), and some were heavy on the experimental rock sound (like Clipping Wings, easily my favorite song that we did, again, someday it'll be on youtube lol).

I actually really liked it (no this has nothing to do with my affiliation to Matt Rock and MISoft Studios) If Matt can get me some copies of this music I'd love to hear it in good quality. The lead singer didn't sound all that great but I've heard worse and the instrumental was really good, so yeah.

I'm in the process of trying to obtain our old reel to reels (I'm a total analog junky, I hate digital sound when it comes to music). We'd recorded an album years ago called "Blue World Lounge," so hopefully I can get those back and work out a way of getting them into MP3 form .

I agree - in terms of the actual songs/music (i.e. not the singing) all of them have something decent sounding; I especially like the sound of the first one

Woot, I wrote that one . The second song is my personal favorite, of these videos anyway, I loved that tightly-timed bridge, where the song picks up in tempo. So much fun to whack away on my hats in that song, hehe.

It's awesome you guys dig it, I've been heavily considering starting a new band as a casual side project, today I've found it difficult to think of much else! There's a lot of obstacles in the way though, most importantly... that pretty Ludwig kit you see me playing in the video has gotten slightly warped over the years :/. Does anyone know if something like that can be fixed? Or do I need to run out and buy a whole new drum kit?

That's awesome! What sort of kit and cymbals are you using? You'll appreciate that crazy rhythm I'm doing in the song "Iron Me" hehe. I'm a total Ludwig fan, and love my Sabian cymbals. In the videos, I'm using a 5-piece Ludwig kit with Aquarian heads (I'm particularly proud of how fast I can whack the bass drum... that's only one pedal baby, a DW5000 hehe, see Shakedown to be impressed lol, otherwise I'm pretty mediocre), 22" Paiste Brass Ride, 18" Sabian AAX Crash (I use it almost like a ride because it's so deep and rich with tone, my favorite cymbal by far), 16" Sabian B8Pro crash, and 14" Sabian B8Pro hats. It's funny, I've spent my life worshipping John Bonham's drumming (of Led Zeppelin fame), and you can sort of hear the influence, but I think I roll more like Kieth Moon (I'm not nearly as good mind you, just that sort of style)

I think Cattlerustler is a drummer as well, I always forget to ask what sort of kit he uses when he plays, so CR, if you read this, what sort of gear and hardware do you like?

yeah i dont have a kit just yet but im aiming to get one in a couple of weeks, ive posted details in your other thread about drum gear

as for my drumming skill at the moment, i can play basic rock beats with the base drum on the count of 1 (who cant) although the ones without the base drum on 1 are throwing me off a bit, and ive started learning fills

also, apparently i learn't four flam rudiments (single flams, flam taps, flam alternating triplets, and flam swiss triplets) in about 2 weeks when it takes a majority of my teachers students about 4-6 weeks to do that

EDIT: the drummers i admire are Joey Jordison of Slipknot (how can you not love that live solo of his), and Justin Foley from Killswitch Engage (hes one of the simplistic drummers, he only uses a 5 piece, with two floor toms although he does use a double pedal)

Thanks for the compliments guys . I'm in the process of trying to talk Phil (guitar) and Colin (bass) into whatever new project I get going, we had really great chemistry and writing that jazzy rock was so natural with them. Ivy... what can I say. She was great in the studio, but she'd never played live before our first shows together (Iron Me and Shakedown were from our second or third show). Whatever vocalist we find will need to have stage experience, that's a definite hehe.

I'm glad you liked Shakedown, that was one of my favorite songs to play. My high hats were malfunctioning through the whole set though (as I recall, it got really bad later into the show), so I couldn't really nail either of those songs as I wanted to. It happens during Harbours & Criminals as well, my hats lock up and I can't do a "swish" during a slow hats roll, completely threw me off lol. I'm going to miss that kit, such an awesome sound hehe.

I hope the 2/5 stars are for video quality lol, if it's for the quality of the music I should start re-thinking this new band idea pronto

Sorry for the double-post (and the bump), but I just uploaded a whole bunch of new songs to You Tube, and since I'm most likely going to get a new band together, and these songs might see a new life, I figured I would share .

Simple Things: Probably our hardest song to play (for us anyway), the timing changes were outrageously difficult for us to get down, so the song took its title from that. Pretty fast song, sort of punk-ish for the most part. I don't remember where Colin's "Corn Beef Sandwich" thing (at 2:51) came from lol, but it always got a good laugh from audiences . That nifty "inside of you" bit near the end, that was my idea lol.

Cyber Sex: One of my favorites, this is the best live version we have unfortunately. Phil's guitar solo is flat-out amazing, easily and by far the best guitarist I've ever had the pleasure of working with. I love how this song blends the weird metal bridges with the "classy" jazz riffery of the rest of the song, hehe.

The Damage: This is probably the best showcase of Ivy's singing when she isn't as nervous/ isn't trying to be louder than my drumkit. I love this song, even though I didn't do much in it. It's the slowest song we did, and was written not long before this show (so even if I had a copy of our album, Blue World Lounge, I really don't think this song was on it). I'm annoyed that my ex-girlfriend Jill (who was running the camera) and our friend Will (from a different band) were having a chat at the start of the song, lol.

Clipping Wings: After one of our shows, a friend who came to see us asked us to play at his house party. We agreed, but the show was terrible, thanks to all the drunk people. So we decided to do something a bit silly... we played "Clipping Wings," a song we'd written a week earlier and had only "rehearsed" two or three times. Ivy didn't have lyrics, so she just sort of makes stuff up along the way. You can see us messing up a ton as well. But this song was gorgeous and I'd kill to re-do this song in our new band. Feel free to skip from 3:30 to about 4:20, that whole minute is one massive trainwreck, lol. I only really posted it to relearn the song, figured I'd share anyway haha.

Chipmunk: This song always ended at exactly one minute. This is the only time we ever played it live, mostly because the show was already in the toilet anyway lol.

Horton Hears a Stray Cat: The most jazzy/ bluesy song we did, and another example of Phil's guitar pwnage. Like Chipmunk, this was never supposed to be played live, but at this show, eh, why not . In the studio, this song always adapted a ton of names... "Horton [Strangles/ Mangles/ Decapitates/ Murders/ Loves/ etc.] a Stray Cat"
