can i just confirm that dbObjectAngleX/Y/Z is the correct command to determin which way an object is facing ?

i wish to point a model in a random direction and want to ensure the modell isn;t going to look up

Make XA and ZA 0, the YA is just left and right turning... never pointing up.

...unless the model you are using has a ZYX rotation (is left-handed), and you've loaded it without realizing that for some reason. It happens. id uses ZYX rotation for example. In maps and models. DBPro knows this, so it loads them fine, but if you are going to use shaders, etc...you need to create an FVF with that rotation, otherwise you will kill your model. It will look very odd!

Yes, those are the commands. Once you have it oriented correctly, use fix object pivot. That tells the GDK the intitial angles to use when placing the model each frame...its pretty important to do that because it has to be done each frame.
