If created a tower like building in seperate peices and stacked them to create one full building, how would i make it so when i walked through a triger zone, the bits fall to the floor, like the building as exploded into peices.
Thanks.

Well... here's a couple suggestions:

1) Animate your building to explode in a certain fashion, then call the animation in your script.

2) You can make several "Build Pieces" entities, and carefully stack them together in the editor. (This part sounds like fun) Then, set up a bunch of exploding barrels by the building, trigger them to explode when the player runs through the triggers zone and hope that FPSC's physics engine reacts accordingly with the building pieces!

...you could try a couple of different things, to get the effect you're after.

1. Stack the seperate entities, and perhaps have the bottom one be destroyed by triggerzone activation, causing the upper entities to fall downward.

2. Assemble all the pieces in your 3D modeling program, rig them, animate the collapse, export it, and introduce it in FPSC as a new animated entity.

Then, all you'd need to do is activate the collapsing building entity with a triggerzone, which will run the animation.

Of the two, the second one is the better choice. Once in place, you'd have a really good effect that you could use effortlessly, with just a couple mouseclicks.

Option #1 would probably be a hassle, cause all kinds of physics problems with collision issues, and you'd never be able to predict or control how everything will react.

Best of luck in your future endeavours.

Thanks,

Seth Black

EDIT: Shucks, Plystire beat me to it. The barrel idea sounds like it might work. I think you'll still have collision and physics woes, though.

Good to see that all involved believe animating the event is the best way to go.

would there be a way to script an entity to "turn physics on" when you walk past the zone, that would be better for scripting noobs like me

Nope, not from what I have seen.

The closest there is would be:

"NOGRAVITY"

But that works the opposite of what you wanted. Not to mention it doesn't keep entities from moving around. They would just be floating around instead.

if you were to make several rubble entities and place them above the characters head then right click on them and set spawn at start to no and spawn after delay to yes the use trigger zones to spawn them and they would look like there falling and the building's collapsing.

...great effect for if the player was inside the building.

I think he's after the effect of the player watching a building be destroyed, from the outside.

Hey, castek...how's San Diego? I'm just up the 5, in Orange County...
