BioFox Games is two years old today, and we're pretty excited about that. You may or may not have heard of us, but we've made the games Revenge, Immortal Guardian, and Immortal Guardian 2. Today marks the day two years ago when we finalized our group name and members and started the web site. Of course, back then we had a few text adventures and four members. Now we're seven strong with three solid games and one in development.

In honor of our birthday, our web programmer Steve has been working on a new site. The new design is amazing, much better than our old one. Loading time is faster, the layout is cleaner and easier to navigate and not so hard on the eyes. We're not stopping there, though. Our forums will also be rewritten and managed by us instead of aceboard.

So come look at the new site and check out our games if you haven't already. Our current game, World Order is nearing Alpha phase so people can try out the demo. Until then, look out for upcoming news and screenshots of it's progress. Let us know what you think about this site so we can make it as enjoyable as possible.

Check out our new site--> http://www.biofoxgames.com

Agreed, Steve really outdid himself this time.

And for those of you who havn't tried Immortal Guardian 2 yet, I highly recommend you do so.

Yeah, I'm proud of this site!

I really worked hard to tweak it to be just perfect. We weren't even sure it would be ready on time for the birthday launch. (I pulled three late-nighters to get it ready...) So that's why we didn't have a new-launch countdown.

If anybody spots mistakes, or problems in any browser (I checked everything I could get my hands on) please let me know. BTW, this website code is pretty much cross-browser, except that IE has a couple minor differences. And no CSS hacks

(If you understood that, you're either a web developer, or have far too much time on your hands)

Thanks for visiting our new site,
Steve

Thanks for the recognition, we're really working hard to get ourselves known around here. It has been two years, after all.

Any comments at all are appreciated.

Looks nice, but when I scroll down the page, the text gets messed up in several places. It only happens on your site.

Jeff -
What browser are you using? What operating system (is it fair to assume windows?)

Exactly what did you do? Does this involve quick scrolling, slow scrolling, etc? Exactly what do I have to do to replicate this?

Thanks for reporting this,
Steve

It's a bug in IE it's been there for years. I think there is an incompatability between IE and table background / row background command.

It's a nice website.

My only complaint is that you know CSS and you're using tables for you're website. Tables for layout = big no no. The generation of web designing has come and go for tables. They are only used for small things that need simple organizing. Not the website design layout.

The speed differences are not all that much different Xeno. There are benefits to using only DIVs when it comes to modifying your site layouts, but they're a pain in the arse to set up in the first place. Tables generally work perfectly and can be set up in minutes whereas DIVs tend to give you no end to compatibility issues and take much longer to get working. To me it feels like workaround city. Anyhow I'm still working on mastering DIVs just cause thats what everyone wants.

I look at it this why, why not use something that just works (tables)?

Well, reasons enough, but I still like tables. DIVs are far more complex to use in a lot of situations, and heck, most of the time I'm trying to figure out how to explain DIV's. After all, you don't know something unless you can explain it to your grandma.

It seems a little elitist to discard a website for using tables. Tables are still a part of the HTML spec last time I checked

I'm going to trust that Steve chose the right setup, I mean even I understand tables.

I am using IE 7, on Windows Vista x64. It happens with basically any scrolling that I do. Any missing lines are properly redrawn when I minimize and maximize the window.

Jeff - Hm.. I don't have a Vista machine to test it with (I've been trying to avoid Vista..), but the same thing shows up in IE7 XP. Presumably if I solve it in one place, it can be solved for the other...

I'm gonna have to install IE7's developer tools, I'll get back to you on this though, I promise.

GatorHex - Any other known causes? Because this seems to only be happening OUTSIDE the table (the text Jeff screenshoted is inside a div, not a table).

Which brings me to the whole CSS/Tables argument.

There is only ONE table on the page, and its automatically generated to go with the advertisements. We use those advertisements to offset some of our costs, so its kind of hard to dump them. I have contacted the (one) guy who runs the ad company, and his response showed he has no idea how HTML works. [sarcasm]Poor guy[/sarcasm]. I'm contacting him again now, but since he seems to be an adminstrator rather than a devloper, my hopes are not high. I would love it if we had no tables (the old site was entirely table based - ugh..), and the code we have control over is. But again, low hopes for table-free ads.

I'd move (or at least strongly support moving) in an instant if someone could recommend an ad network that is geared towards games rather than webcomics.

Revenge 2 is a definite future game, people really liked Revenge and it's our most popular game especially with the map pack and the editor than was released for it. At the moment we're developing an RTS that should have a WIP page pretty soon.

Jeff - I've been poking at the display error using IE7's developer tools, and I don't know why its doing hat. According to the developer tools, it doesnt exist. I suspect its a bug in the rendering engine, because it seems to be induced by scrolling quickly/above a certain speed.
