Whats your longest running DarkBasic Project?

I have a full time job which takes up most of my time, so i tend to programme whenever i have spare time which unfortunally at the moment is not that often, as a result my longest running project is almost 2 Years...

Anyone beat that?

Mine has been going for 3 years but that's only because I keep redesigning it every 3 months. But I'm still using the original code from 3 years ago for loading levels, progress is just going very slow .

The two projects I worked on were relatively short, ranging from 1/4 year - 1/2 year each. Chances are my next project will be longer though

2.5 years I did redesign it a few times, but now i think i am finally on the right track. But i work on it in long intervals. Sometimes i go without working on it for months then get obsessed with it again. Thats why it takes me so long.

dont hate people who rip you off, cheat and get away with it, learn from them

Not completed a project since I started. 2003.

I got Classic way back in 2003ish, tried to make imitation Nintendo games on it without really understanding the principles of programming (everything was hardcoded). I then upgraded to Pro for some reason, never quite understood why, and did exactly the same with cartoon shading. Only recently have I started doing things that are flexible and work properly. I'm far from a brilliant programmer. I make tonnes of mistakes.

I started coding on SGT almost 22 months ago, the first idea I had about 26 months ago. I've worked full time on it for the larger part of those months. Hopefully I can keep working full time on it (hint: buy it later )

3D Character Maker was started back in 2004 (it was called EZactor then). It has been restarted a couple of times and I've had a few other completed projects that have got in the way. Things are going strong now though. It will definitely be released within the next decade or two

As long as its not just me as when i started my project I though a few months maybe, that was based on my previous project only taking about 6 months of which i was unemployed and glued to my computer for 3 of the 6 months.

but in my current project i add a feature, then another, Then add a few new gadgets, and its been through 1 rebuild, Plus a full time job and lots of overtime dosn't really help

But one day, maybe

That makes BatVink the winner at about 5/6 years

MSon:
Depends on how much time he spends on it I would say Or I could mention my huge RPG project I started on years before I even heard about DB I do think about it from time to time, during the lunch today for example.

Yes, the amount of time spent on it is minimal. I have 3 other time-consuming projects - one is 11 years old, another is 9 years old. The third - well she was born in 2004. Between them I have my work cut out, especially when exams are on the horizon

About 1 year with Revenge, although World Order will definitely beat that.

I've been working on a planetarium project for about 22 years. Actually spent almost 1 hour 15 minutes on it yesterday. Started in power-basic, super-basic or one of them, then VB up through VB6, then it slowed down when I switched from VB6 to DBPro, but it's picking up again.

22 Years!
That's quite a lot. Good for you, man, good for you.

My dbpro mmorpg was for about a year. After a couple rewrites, I realized it couldn't be done.

I'm working on a new online game, not mmo though. That's been going for about 3 days and I have a pretty stable network going so far.

erhm...
Since posting a new thread about it would be redundant, and I'm sure mods don't want an e-mail about it... may any mod let me know as to why I'm on post approval again?

Not intense. I work slowly. I'm also a procrastinator. I've been in the forums for three years, and I'm giving serious thought to developing an avatar and signature within the next year(or so).

My endless project is certainly not the norm - rather it is a hobby that keeps me company when I am lonely and diverts my attention from personal tragedies which arise from time to time. I'm not sure that I would ever actually want to finish it, because not working on it would leave a void that would be hard to fill.

Still, even those who are more focussed and working toward something they hope to commercialize seem to need quite a bit of time to complete what they will regard as a truly worthy project. This is because so many people in the forum work solo, and when you are working solo this is quite understandable. A really good example is Cash Curtis' Geisha House, which has been of interest to the forum community and which has been in the works for some time now. Consider that he was still working in the military when he started it, he is obliged to at least talk with his wife sometimes, he had to move to another country, etc. It is impressive that he has gotten as far as he has considering he is working solo and has had to juggle other obligations. But even though the project is taking a while, his main WIP board thread shows how he methodically tackles an almost endless series of challenges, and it covers so many facets of game making that it could probably be made into an interesting book on the numerous issues that arise.

With real time and devotion, I have never stopped working on ports of WordTrix since I first came up with the concept in 2003. I have a version on my mobile phone even

But the longest project I've never finished and still work on from time to time is Games Haven. I started it in Grade 8 back in '93 in QBasic 4.5. So--- 15 years. I even have the domain name that hasn't been used in a long time.

I started something in 2000. Never actually decided to completely stop doing it (although technically I did in about 2002). Too much beer.... On the positive side I am reviving a Div project I started in about 1999 to an updated version in DBP.

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing
