Well, I'll be getting it in 3-9 business days. But I just bought an nVidia 8400 gs from Buy.com for $49.88 - $10.00 for a sign on bonus through google checkout.

I now have $10~ left over for my own spending pleasure (Though my web guy will be running into some money soon, heh heh).

Anyways this is a really big deal for me because this means I can finally develop for DirectX 10 AND use Ubuntu Linux (Not together obviously, rather use Ubuntu because my graphics card doesn't work with it).

Who else here has a DirectX 10 card? <Not intended as insult, rather a query of information>

Cheers,

-naota

I have a DirectX 10 card, but I never use DirectX 10 because my card only allows it to work with reference(CPU).

Hey, nice! Glad to hear it! Make some sweet stuff now!

Aaron whenever you get the chance I need to talk to you on MSN, or e-mail or something. I can't login to the site's FTP for some reason so therefore I can't easily continue working on your site Also I'll need to be able to get to your mySQL databases and such and you never gave me the info for that to my knowlege.

I've got an 8600gts, it's done me pretty well so far. An 8400gs is very capable, you'll love the upgrade

I've got an 8800GTS, only thing I think I've ever played with it though that uses DirectX10 is the Crysis demo.

Should have spent the extra $10-20 on at least a 8600GT.

The 8400GS is too crippled for DX10 gaming. Ring 'em up and change your order now!

I have GeForce 8800GTS, This card is really worth. You can easily overclock it, and you can see a difference, but, you need to make some cooling system.

haha looks like I've got the worst DirectX 10 card here, but that's fine because it's still better than my current card. (Still waiting for it in mail)

@Adam
Okay, I'll get onto ebuddy right now and I'll see if you're on.

You guys are not being 1337 enough. You need to go and buy an IBM supercomputer, mod it, and use THAT as a graphics card. Now thats power.

Aaron, how well does your 8400 run? In terms of DX9 and DX10 gaming?

I'm asking because I might finally, finally upgrade, I should be getting £1000 soon, I'm planning to spend a some of that on a new laptop and the one I've found uses that card.

@Seppuku Arts
Haven't got it yet. It's in Bloomingdale California (According to the FedEx tracker) so now I'm waiting for it (I'm in Rocklin California). I assume Bloomingdale is close though.

@Osiris
Yeah but those super computers don't support DirectX 10.

@Adam
I'll get on here.

9600GT here, got it for really cheap considering how much computer stuff usually costs in my country.

Of course, you're gonna need Vista to make use of the DX10 capabilities of that card. I upgraded to this for the bargain midrange performance, not DX10. I'm still a happy XP user

Where are the ATI users?

Here. Personally I would've prefered an ATI DirectX 10 card but A: No idea what they're called, B: Too expensive from the one's I've seen.

The HD series are all DX10 cards. HD 3850 is their current mid range card, but at that price you're better off with the 9600GT (FPS-wise, but for video quality my old X1650XT was even better >.<.

It came in the mail today!

It's not installed yet -- I'm currently looking for the my HP Pavilion a1230n user's manual online because I need to find my PCI Express slot. I've never been good at the hardware side of computers. :/

Anyways it's much better than my current card. My current card only supports up to 1280x1024x32, THIS one supports 2048x1528x32~ Plus some other features like 16x anisotropic. And of course the best feature: Direct3D 10 support.

You can't miss it

It's normally a blue slot (but not guaranteed) and will be the longest slot on the motherboard. The graphics card will only fit in one slot so if you can't find one it fits in then you've got AGP

Gigabyte Blue

Asus Blue

but Asrock couldn't be bother painting it!

Yeah I found it by searching pictures on google - and very little text reading "PCIE".

It's working now, but am disappointed to find my monitor only has up to 1280x1024 -- not just my old GPU. My new GPU should be good if I get a new monitor or hook it up to an HDTV

What will hooking it up to a HDTV do?

1080p (HDTV) pretty much equals 1024p (PC). That's a difference of 56 pixels. Less than the length of this message in most cases.

Well, all monitors have a limit. Even my 22" monitor can't go beyone 1680x1050. The card has the ability to do 28xx (whatever you said) but it doesn't mean all monitors can. You'd need like some huge screen to use it all. Quite frankly it'd be a pain just to navigate windows. You'd need a big mouse pad

Aaron, you can find a pretty decent flat screen monitor on newegg.com or your local electronics store for a good price. They've become a lot cheaper the last few years, so, if you can save up another $160-$240 you can get yourself a nice flat screen LCD. You won't regret it

I have a flat screen LCD, about 22" Thanks though

@NeX
Bigger screen would make it awsome to play games and use DX10.

i have an 8400 in an otherwise very well equipped laptop, and it just does not perform well at all. My 7900 in a similarly equipped desktop pulls twice the frames in most games.

In my opinion desktops generally perform better than laptops but I've never had any card other than an ATI so I can't really say anything about that. All I know is my card performs much better than my older card, and my card's low-end

@everyone
I made a simple Direct3D 10 program, it's attached.

In related news, btw, my friend had an integrated Intel Extreme Graphics 845GL chip so Vista wasn't working. If anyone's wondering how to get passed this simply run it in compatability mode for Windows XP (Press ENTER if you can't get to the "Apply" button (Due to low screen resolution)), and then right click the Setup.exe and choose Run as Administrator - That'll get you to the point where it'll run and install. Just in case someone needed this guide or found this thread via google.

Nonononono!!!!!

1280x1024 = His monitor. 1080p = 1920x1080. It's 4:3 vs. 16:10, so you see quite a bit more at 1080p. Or, if you get a big enough PC monitor (24" 16:10 generally), you could get the resolution to be 1920x1200.
