why does setting my camera range to a much lower number not increase my frame rate????

Why do you expect it to?

DBPro has still got to do almost the same amount of work (translations & rotations) on all of your objects before it gets to the point of whether they can be seen by the camera - all that may be cut out are any shaders operating on those objects and the number of pixels rendered.
