So my bro recently downloaded the Halo 3 map pack (now free for all you penny pinchers!) and I decided to do a review.

Foundry

Probably my favorite of the three. Foundry is a big open room where you can make and match your forge skills. Including alot of new items, this Map will always be the most unique. with also the abillity to download other peoples Maps from the Xbox live website, It will never be the same every time!

Standoff

A basic two base map (similar to Blood Gulch) Standoff is a very fun map to play on. although somtimes gameplay will get repetitive (compaired to foudry) It will always be a classic to play on.
This map Includes new forge items aswell.

Rats nest

Based after the Single player map Crows Nest, Rats nest is a pretty large scale map with two bases and a trak that goes around and leads to both bases this is the best Ctf map!Including (aswell)some of the new forge items this map has a pelican that (for the first time) isnt crashed!!!!! dont be scared!

Get this pack on XBL Today Now Now Now!!!!

Thats exactly how I felt when I read your "review".
No offense but if you want to be taken seriously put a little more effort into it.
Think of the maps strong points and weak points, It sounds as if you've only just downloaded the maps and decided to put this up.

One thing I dislike about Forge is how you are limited to a certain number of objects. Surely you should just have a budget in place... If I want to put down 100 walls then let me do so.

Also why is it when you have placed an object, but want to pick it up, the object in question flies right toward you? It makes making minor adjustments very difficult indeed.

Btw the maps are Free folks, for all those who live in a cave.
[EDIT]^ That makes it sound like people who live in caves get some sort of special deal.... but you all know what I mean [/EDIT]

I LOOOOVVVVEEE foundry lol. I've downloaded about 50 forged maps off of bungie. There is like a remake for every map. Although terribly scaled they are still awesome. My favorite that I downloaded is a remake of midship, it's scaled to perfection and laid out nearly flawless.

this is actually wrong... there are about 4 or so pelicans outside of The Pit and they aren't crashed...

i totally agree. there were too many restrictions in forge, but i still found it fun.

Foundry was a good map, but too small. you can't build 2 big bases in it like you can on Standoff. Standoff is my favorite map of ALL of the maps. Its big, has all of the new items, its open, ect. As for Rat's Nest, i didn't like it at all. Too closed in, and you can't even touch the pelican... they put it just out of reach, which made me really mad

Yeh, If foundry was a bit bigger then it would be a lot better. Some people have created some amazing stuff in it though.

Have a shufty at this map some guy made:

Its pretty impressive stuff.

I think people give Forge too much credit, there's a lot that it should have been able to do.

Personally I love Farcry's editor on the 360, you have incredible freedom and people have made some amazing maps. The game itself is not played very much these days, but if they add a similar editor to Farcry2 on the 360, then people will wonder why they wasted so much time on forge maps. I just got sick of spending hours making a great map, then having nobody to play with!.

Don't get me wrong, Forge is damn good fun to mess around with, but there's simply no comparison when it comes to making Farcry maps and the freedom you get with them.

less is more, but if less is more how you keeping score?

I completely agree. I've never played FarCry, But If Forge was closer to Garry's Mod (Which there is no reason why it can't be) then the game would be a lot better.
Also the Theater mode in Halo3 has a lot to be desired.

Halo 3 could have been so much better.

Also another thing about Halo 3 that drives me nuts is the ranking system. When my brother and I initially got the game, we would play slayer with our mate and constantly win. But After hundreds of games we would only be level 14. So ridiculous.

Surely you should rank up based on your K/D spread and how many flags you captured etc. That would make more sense.
You now start to see people who are incredibly high ranks, but actually have no skill whatsoever, simply because the system rewards you for loosing games. Madness!

Leveling up in halo 3 is the easiest thing ever. I got to 46 in like 4 hours lol. So Big if you aren't leveling than you probably aren't winning lol.

And forge is given way too much credit I agree. There is hardly any freedom at all.

O yeh, BiggAdd is always lying. Did you know that I am actually part of the "Forum Police" And I actually did cheat on the Banner competition.
Yeh I'm such a terrible person really. I hacked the TGC site so I could win all the competitions I enter. Also I just lie to people because I have nothing better to do.

Little bit harsh and overactive? All he did was point out that the Halo ranking system works in a way that contradicted your experience (he could be wrong, i wouldn't know). Regardless, it's no reason to overeact even if you do disagree.

The only thing I hate about forge is rotating and placing individual entities. I spent twenty minutes putting up a square set of walls, but then I got bored and quit. They need an option to enable/disable entity physics. That way the damn things may not fall over whenever you let go.

From what I read the 360 version of farcry2 will have an editor, so will get onto making levels on that as soon as it's released.

Don't mean to distract this thread onto Farcry2, but I can see how this will expand on what user created content actually means to these games, and how much fun it can be. Perhaps when I have a nice selection of levels I'll make a new thread and get some DB'ers kicking my ass on my own created levels .

Halo3 is still an amazing game, still rocks my world how 4 player co-op can actually work in a game as complex as that, kinda wish I hadn't lent it to a (ohh you actually wanted it back) friend!. He still hasn't completed it yet!.

personally i like rat's nest the best, bombing around with the ghost, splattering people.

i find standoff too big and open, get bored half the time playing it, needs 10+ players for it to be enjoyable.

foundry is only as good as what you make of it, default is ok, but it's when you make crazy game variants it becomes fun.
