So I got up this morning to find that my car, which was in the garage at the time, had been broken into and the stereo had been stolen. A 300$ stereo mind you. Nothing else had been touched for some reason and they felt it necessary to also break various components on my dash board. Ugh...and of course my insurance does not cover this. however I did keep the box, and that had the serial number on it, so if the moron tries to sell it at a pawn shop or something he will be arrested, I hope he really is that stupid and just doesn't act that way.

You may be able to claim it on your apartment/house insurance if you have it. Sorry to hear the news

So someone broke into your garage, stole the car radio and nothing else? Rather than stealing a car radio from a vehicle out in the open, where it's much easier because there's no door to get through?

Sounds a bit fishy to me.

As Jerico2day mentioned, look into your home owners or renters insurance. Your deductable is probably more than the cost of the stereo, but if there is also damage to your dashboard, then it may be worth it.

The same thing happened to me. But I left the windows down and the doors unlocked, so I blame those sweet summer nights.

Most garages have a side door, right? Maybe Osiris left it open or unlocked, I don't know. I don't have a garage.

hey, woke up this morning to find my car window smashed into too, but i didnt have anything to steal (i took the radio out last night as i got out, something i dont normally do).

it was parked without a permit (i only had the car for 3 days so i figured getting a permit would be pointless), and the wardens check here every day, so there was me gloating i'd made half a week without a permit or a fine, and bam, windows gone >.<

i believe it's called karma.

Well the garage door opener is broken, so it cant be locked. But seeing as they did it between 7-10AM, because my parents left a little before then, it would be safe to assume that they just went inside the garage rather than stealing one from the other two cars in the open. I dunno, I called my car insurance company and they don't cover that because they are jerks. But maybe the homeowners will.

Pic attached of what they did.

sorry to hear that. prolly a couple meth-heads in need of a tweak.

one time they smashed my passenger side window in my 280-ZX (years ago) just to steal some quarters and nyc bridge tokens that were sitting in the console meanwhile had they tried the driver door it wasnt locked due to unrepaired damage from a previous break-in, lol

Ok, so the guy who stole my stereo also stole a bike and some tools apparently according to my father. However I have a picture of the genius RIDING MY BIKE PAST MY HOUSE! I mean really, how dumb do you have to be to do something like that? <= there are not enough of those to express the stupidity of this person.

Well if the cops find who did it and find your stereo and tools, then I'm pretty sure they'd believe you about the bike .

You get people here who leave their car running with the door open while they go into a shop for like 20 minutes (even leaving kids in car sometimes). Happens all the time. Crime is like seriously low. Cypriots look at me strangely with my lock the car when you get in, lock it again when you get out UK mentality (esp since when I first worked in Slough...).

As for the fishy comment about robbing from your garage rather than in the open, I would say the thought is it is better not to be seen. I saw a program once about this ex-thief who said he preferred robbing a place while the people were in the house (asleep, watching TV, whatever) as less unexpected things happened.

Cheers

In philidelphia, there is an average of more than 1 murder per day.

I've read reports on forums where people drop wallets, credit cards, money, the lot, and they go back the next day and people have handed it in. Nice.

Put it this way, I was never robbed or assaulted in the UK, but I came pretty close once or twice, knew quite a few people who were, and you felt a bit worried walking along at night quite a lot. Here I could park my car with all doors open and still running at any time of the day or night, then go for a stroll with money stapled to my clothes and I would feel pretty safe and sure my car and money is fine when I get back to the car 2 hours later. Honest. Plus it would be warm and I wouldn't get wet (unless I jumped in the sea) Perhaps that is it. Lack of sun makes you a scumbag?

Cheers

That's probably in the South Philadelphia area (walked there before; kinda scary).

Us here in Winnipeg are still enjoying freezing cold temperatures and lots of snow but speaking of theft, winnipeg is the car-theft capital of the world-and im serious. A car is reported stolen on average every 30 minutes every day.

Sounds like they need the "bait cars" that they are using in the US now . Don't know if they have them anywhere else, but they are brilliant. They are rigged with cameras, GPS, remote door locks, remote engine cut-off, and signal that tells dispatchers when the door is open or the car is moving. So they stick them in areas with a lot of car theft, go about their business, and then when the dispatcher is alerted the door is open, they can check the cameras and when they start to drive away, they dispatch cops to follow the car (since it has GPS). If they try to run they just shut off the car engine, and lock the car doors so they can't get out.

Some [bad man] tried to break into my dad's Subaru Forester 2.L XL Performance Version (thought i'd give the details to make it a litle more dramatic)in the night a long time ago. Lucky that I was awake reading PCZONE randomly when i heard something outside. I looked out to see some bloke breaking into our car (out of 3!) I knocked on the window, hid, and he pegged it down the road, I told my dad, and he gave me £5! Lucky me! I'm the personal housewatcher now, as my bros say!
