Like in topic. Had anybody seen it. (for people that don't know about it: it's a U2 concert recorded in 3d) IMO it was good and I liked it even through I'm not their fan. After that I've read the review. And? I agree with it (they said it was more like a concert music video than just an recorded concert - parts from another concerts, Bono not saying anything to people etc.)

BTW: It will be showed (in Poland) until only until next weekend, also in Poland there are only 6 cinemas that can show it (due to technical things) and it won't be relased as a normal 2D DVD movie dunno about 3D), so it may be called a "rare" thing...

So? What do you think about it?

The reason it's only in some theaters is because of the technology used to render the 3d display.

Check it out:

I didn't see the U2 concert, cuz I can't stand them, but I got to see Beowulf in 3D, which totally made the movie for me

I'd hazard a guess (more of a hope) that most movies within the next few years will be shown in 3d, it makes the experience much better.

3d Movies are definitely cool but Beowulf 3d gave me a headache! Totally worth the headache though. 'Twas a pretty good movie no matter what anyone says.

Never heard about this before. Sounds really cool but I doubt I'll see it in a cinema around here soon. Hopefully they get these digital cinemas working at the same time, the ones that downloads the movies in digital format and thus skips all the hassle with film.

I can't see most movies going 3D any time soon. Think about the difficulty in filming in 3D. You need multiple cameras for every shot for one thing. Imagine, for Beowulf, they had to render every frame *twice* to get the 3D perspective. For regular movies and dramas, it's probably a waste of money. I mean, would you really want to watch the next Will Farrell movie in 3D?

Quite frankly I'd rather not have Bono that close to me

I'm with Jeku on this one, I don't see mainstream studios using 3D, beyond experiments or as a promotional vehicle, in the near future. They tried it in the 1950's, and it turned out to be fairly hoaky, with viewers complaining of headaches and even nausea from watching longer movies, or so we were taught in my useless semester of cinematography, lol. And if Dink got a headache from watching Beowulf in 3D, I assume the technology isn't much better these days. To be honest, I could see holographic movies, or maybe some sort of virtual reality thing, being used on a wide scale before 3D glasses, although really those are "leaps forward" rather than promotional devices.

But still, I'd pay money to go see "3D Laser Cats" . It's an SNL thing if you don't know what I'm referencing, lol

With digital camera technology improving, like Red One I wouldn't be surprised to see more movies shot in 3D using a single camera capable of recording from two lenses. I wonder how far we are from glasses where you can watch high quality movies in, I recall there being a lot of fuzz about that years ago. A nice combination if you ask me.

That's true, in U2 3D they used 18 cameras (9 pairs) for every concert (there were 3+1, where they recorded close-ups), but U2 is a band, that have enough money, so they don't have to earn money on this)

Now I wait to se Metallica in 3d

I highly doubt u2 did it for the lols.

I suspect beowulf had the revenue they did simply because it was advertised as stereoscopic. If it hadn't been, I'm sure it wouldn't have been all that impressive.

Frankly, the movie was about a dozen times better when it's sticking out of the screen (I saw it on dvd, not the same experience). I keep looking at the films coming out so I can watch another 3d film, but none are coming out that interest me (Hannah Montana, are you friggin kidding me?) It's renewed my interest in the theaters anyway!
