If you don\'t know how to script, try finding a program like x-plain or even just read some of the tutorials out there. It can really help to understand the language, and can really help make your game really unique. If you have a question, don\'t come on the forum and ask for a whole script, see what you can build first, and whatever doesn\'t work you can ask about on the forum.

Zack, I understand what you are thinking, however, I don't mind sharing what I have come up with as long as I have it. I personally have always thought that any forum is a place to get help and sometimes the solution is way beyond a person's grasp. Nobody had really ever helped me here so I have decided to go the other direction with a little more help than others are willing to give. Granted, I finally learned it on my own and am still coming up with algorithms that are quite useful and complex. That's only because I've had almost 40 years of programming experience. I sure do wish on occasion that I was able to get a little more help here than I did. It would have made my life a little easier as I was learning. Instead it was just plain frustrating and also developing a really bad feeling towards TGC. Although I finally realized it wasn't TGC but the people on these forums. I'm not referring to you Seth, I just happen to post after you did. Also, I am now just ignoring everybody anyway.

And here I thought I helped you out once with something... musta been my imagination.

If somebody shows no initiative to try it themselves, then I have no incentive to help them, because they won't be learning from it. However, if they are willing to learn or have already attempted it, then I'd be more inclined to help them along.

Plystire, yes you have, recently, but not early on like in February of 2007. I was referring to those early days when this was all new to me.

Like F l a t l a n d e r, I have a background in programming, and Basic in particular. This made it easier for me to pick up the syntax of fpi script, but the problem has always been a lack of documentation. A few of us have attempted to compile documents and write tutorials to get people started, but they have always been basic, non-descript starters if you will. Even those who seemed to be experienced were shooting in the dark, trying different things and many times trying things which were doomed from the start because some commands/conditions never worked.

It was not until recently, as the source code has become more available and undisclosed to us, that people like PlystirE have shed more light on it. Still, we experiment until we make things work, and hopefully learn something along the way. The language seems at times to be as difficult as English, and we don't know any of the rule exceptions.

I hope at some point, perhaps when FPSC is in a quasi-stable condition, we will get more in-depth documentation. I don't think anyone here has the ability to do a ".fpi for dummies" with the information/documentation that we currently have.

Best.

I don't want to be negative, I just think it helps if you try to fix a problem first because then you can learn from whatever you are trying to fix. It is ok to ask for some scripting, but if you really think you could build it, try it first and then you might have something to share with everyone else instead of having to ask for it.
