it seems that whenever i buy a new set of earphones (bud style) no matter what brand (sony and creative are the ones i get) the left earphone always breaks within months

has anyone else had this problem?

anyway im going to get some headphones soon, cause i hear that theyre better for your hearing if you have your music loud.

Maybe it's your left ear?
[/joke]

Maybe you naturally just have them loud and the sound unbalanced in the properties of it?

I prefer using headphones for the main reason that you can put them as loud as you like without annoying the neighbors - they sound better too, unless you have a real expensive hi-fi. IMO earphones always sound better than desktop speakers.

Mine always blow on the right side first. It's just a matter of playing the headphones too loud

Well if I'm listening to good music I always sing and the speakers cover up my bad singing but with headphones, prepare for a boo fest.lol

@Insanity Complex: i thought so, at the moment my current pair are in "limbo" the left one is turning on and off depending on the angle of the cord at the jack end.

@Van B: I use headphones for my PC too, cause my family doesnt really like the music i listen to, which is a shame for them cause my friends and i are attempting to play it ourselves.
but these headphones that im using for my PC are old walkman ones

For no more than £5 you can get a lead to connect your PC to your Sterio, I have a cheap Sterio, But half desent Speakers, Thats a much better option than PC Speakers, And i think the sound is Much better, (and Louder).

And for me Headphones always break mid way in the wire, (I Fiddle with the wire, and eventually they all break)

Wireless Headphones, Thats what i need

Buy cheap ones from the pound shop if your a headphone wrecker!

Pulling on the wire does them in. Sleeping with them on will do the same.

They're not good for your ears always try and listen to music on the lowest setting you can bare not the highest. I know a wanabe DJ who was deaf in one ear by age 20!

good luck

From my experience it's buying cheap headphones that's the problem. I always use to buy cheap ones and they would break after a few months. Got myself a good pair of Sennheiser's (HD 595) and there still as good as new. Way better sound quality as well, and much more comfortable when wearing for long periods of time.

I go through a lot of earphones. Mine usually get decapitated in car doors.

I can't wear most headphones for long. They really irritate my jaw, has something, I assume, to do with my minor TMJ. So basically it's either speakers or earbuds for me, otherwise I wake up the next morning with a sore and popping jaw

that's interesting Agent Dink...I get a stiff 'locked' jaw sometimes and wonder what's caused it - i'll see if it comes after listening with my headphones for a while.

I have to say, the sennheiser cx300's are a great balance between cost (About £10 on amazon) and sound quality (Great bass and quality). Had mine for over a year now and they still work fine. I also have a pair of sennheiser eh250's though I don't like them...too bulky and tight...hurt the sides of my face after a while lol

But I do like my desk and floor vibrating when I have my speakers playing, and that's something you can't get from headphones...

At least your headphones don't shock you and make your ears bleed like some of the Microsoft Zunes

Try using wireless headphone that might fix the problem. I found a great cheap pair a while ago and if I find the right channel then I can't hear any noise or interference.

My headphones have lasted my several years, because I don't blast the volume (despite the fact that I'm a teenager and therefore obligated to do so). High volume causes clipping, ear damage, and headphone damage, on top of that theres no real reason to blast it anyways.

Buy the Bose ones. I blast it as loud as I want and they haven't had any problems in several years.

Bose. Hah. Exclusivity through price, because honestly, any sound or music freak will tell you they're not worth the money. Oddly enough, if you don't want to pay hundreds of dollars and you want some good sound, currently I'd recommend the Logitech X-230 (2.1) which gives more than reasonable sound for a $50 soundset. If you want some good headphones, I'd go for Sennheiser all the way. Sure, they're expensive but as long as you don't get them hit by a car there's no equal.

Some of the best sounds I ever heard came out of Harman Kardon speakers.

I loooooove my Logitech THX z-5300e 5.1 surround system!

Unfortunately they're a discontinued item now I'd recommend them to everyone.

Yes, it's bloody annoying and a waste of money, especially as my most durable pair soon went missing...Yes, I'm a headphone wrecker too, pulling on them, putting the volume up on full, giving them a hard time does kind of dramatically reduce life expectancy.

well my solution:

Sony MDR V150

DJ headphones like those are great, for a few reasons:

-The pair above only cost me £13
-You're not going to tread on them, because they're not tiny
-An ear won't randomly stop working
-The cable is a lot more durable (the casing around the wires is much thicker and is made of rubber, well on those headphones there)Mine has survived wear, tear and car doors.
-Much Better Sound Quality than earphones
-Much more comfortable to wear (headphones like the usually get complaints that they tangle in people's hair, but these don't - I have dreads, where everything tangles in them, my headphones currently haven't got caught or anything )
-If you ever need to do something with music or DJing, then perfect, at least you get the headphone socket converter with it

I know these type are more noticeable, but hey, there's nothing more cool than looking like a DJ. Or at least that's what I say to delude myself into the reassurance of 'coolness'.

Although the set Seppuku promotes is definitely cool (I can vouch for another one in the series), he failed at bumping his coolness. Therefore, Seppuku is sent back to his island for 2 days.

Well bumping my coolness was worth the try, maybe next time I should dress like Paris Hilton, it seems to work for you. Though I hear the Dutch are much more laid back, so a Paris Hilton costume will have an opposite effect in the UK.

And yes, they're a nice pair of headphones, I never leave the flat without them - great for the price and I'll never go back to earphones again.

I own those. They're pretty good. A little weak on the bass, but definately worth the price.

I can't stand earbuds, it's dj type headphones all the way for me

Hurray for teh logd!

I have not read anything beyond the 3rd post, so I appologize if this was already said.

No matter what pair of headphones I use in a CD player, the left gets quite. But, same pair on a MP3 player, works perfectly. Only thing I can think of.

Hmm, well the PSP earbuds are apparently really durable because I wear them when I sleep (to fall asleep faster because I cant stand the various humming noises in the house) and I have had them for two years or so. I also use my Ipod during that time though, my nano, which people say is also brittle, but I sleep on it haha!

And ipods with HDDs aren't "brittle"? I'd rather have mass storage on silicon than in a mechanical device.

Thats what I say, but then people go outright and tell me "I don't like nanos because they are too small...I like the thicker feel of my Ipod Video...".

Well it's your MP3 player, always keep to what you prefer, I both like the iPod video and Nano, but never the less I've settled with the video and so it has arguing space in my pocket with my phone - so small can be good. (I just prefer the much larger drive, (always good for digital DJing) and the fact I can watch movies/music videos on it for journeys) But iPods, unlike their headphones are more durable that some people think, I've dropped the mini I had a few times and my current iPod video and they worked spiffingly...though the battery replacement in the Mini had a leak and was thrown into a bucket of water instead exploding or causing a fire.

I've dropped my iPod Classic a few times... never misses a beat. I think they're pretty durable.

That being said I don't try to drop it... bad things seem to happen all the time, like I have it resting on my lap and the dog jumps up without me expecting it

yeah, im probly gonna go out and get a pair of the DJ style headphones tomorrow, cause my current pair of bud style ones busted up 2 days ago and I cant stand to not have music whenever im outside the house.

EDIT: Got 'em, theyre Digitor Hi-Fi headphones. one thing i never realised about headphones is how much of the background noise they cut out. when i have music playing i can even hear myself speak
