I forget my old game, Moonbase Assault. Now I'm making new game. In game, you are one of british agents in France. They steal plans, maps, get information about enemy's weapons and number of enemy soldiers, and kill some important officers. The mission is no easy. You are alone in center of thousands german soldiers. In first campaing, you are in France, there are large mansions. You are working in there in under cover, but somebody see what you are doing in there. There is germans warehouse, and you must destroy it, but ti is not easy when all germans are finding you! First you mast find good weapon. Then you must locate warehouse and destroy it. That was information about first campaign. Screenshots.

fpsc games arent allowed in here, you need to post this in the fpsc showcase forum...

Stuff that has something to do with other stuff... that usually leads to more stuff..

Um...it isn't is it? Can't see the FPSC HUD...

Looks like a nice start. How far have you actually got? What is built into the engine so far?

I'd be surprised if it wasnt fpsc, looking at jesper's profile i saw that he has only made posts in the fpsc forums, it's got fpsc media, the fpsc crosshair and everything, i mean, it's pretty easy removing the hud in fpsc..

I don't remember any specific rule stating they cannot be here. Also, to put screen shots in one post, just use the image tag.

This board is commonly used for DB/DBP projects and previous FPSC contributions have been directed to the FPSC section of the forum. This board is basically for programmers and we like to keep it that way.

There is an FPSC showcase for FPSC games, trust me, you don't want all fpsc games to be posted here.

post in the FPSC board PLEASE. Everytime somebody posts FPSC here it makes some other FPSC guy think to himself, "hey he did it, so I can do it too". FPSC belongs in the FPSC boards, THANK YOU.

Calm down, draknir_.

Unless extremely customly scripted - almost revamping the entire FPSC engine, I agree FPSC stuff should remain in the Showcase forum for FPSC.

It's pretty obvious with a board named FPSC Showcase where this stuff should go.

And I wonder why most FPSC WIP posts don't explicitly say FPSC in their titles or descriptions? Hmmm...

Even though I feel like draknir_, I agree with tha_rami we all need to calm down.

Currently there is nothing in the AUP (or a sticky here) that prohibits FPSC games (a TGC product) from being posted here. Until a "WIP" section is created in the FPSC arena, or an actual rule/sticky is created here; these threads will most likely continue.

In the mean time, what would be nice, is if responses held additional information....like comments and criticism of the poster's work, for example; instead of looking down on it, simply because it was made with FPSC.

All my opinion, of course.

We're not looking down on it. We're saying FPSC has a completely separated part of the forums and in the past, mods have always enforced the separation between the two. That you now acknowledge that you disagree with those previously set rules will only cause confusion and chaos.

This belongs in the Showcase.

Please point me to these previously set rules (ie., where are they posted). Unless there is something actually written down, people cannot be expected to follow them...without knowing about them.

Sounds like a good idea. Maybe we should get a moderator to post a sticky about keeping FPSC WIP games in the FPSC section? Know anyone?

Seriously, it has been sort of an unspoken thing. Unspoken until someone posts an FPSC game. Then either it gets smacked down or ignored. If the search engine weren't pants I'd show several examples, but almost all FPSC WIP posts don't say it's FPSC in the title (another gripe of mine).

Look around. This is a board where programming achievements such as Geisha House, SoulHunter, Pirates of Port Royale, and countless third party DLLs are celebrated and admired. Many of us spend hours and hours writing LOD algorithms, AI pathfinding, and all sorts of other tricky stuff. Unless it is highly advanced with extra scripting, personal artwork, or pushes the engine to the limit (or uses it in a unique way), it is hard for a programmer to get excited by something produced with a game maker program. And board is full of DBPro/DBC programmers.

I'm not a real programmer but I play one with DBPro!

If you're reffering to me, I have no sticky powers outside the realm of FPSC.

I understand what you're saying, but (like I said) until the rules are adjusted...it's going to continue to happen. You may want to contact one of the regular Mods to see if they'll put up a sticky for you guys.

I strongly believe that FPSC has absolutely no place in the WIP forum, just as 3dGamemaker has no place in it. An avalanche of half baked stock media games is not what I want to see here.

Whatever you say. If that didn't send the message across that moderators should back up the policies both moderators and users keep in the forums, nothing will. I don't feel like discussing this, ending up going out of line and getting slapped or worse for naught. FPSC games belong in the FPSC Showcase, not in W.I.P. nor in Program Announcements.

This is what I don't understand with DBPro users, W.I.P. stands for what? "WORK IN PROGRESS" And "Program Annoucements" you have a PROGRAM to annouce, it does not say in name nor description "DB WIP" or "DB Program" annoucements.

Sorry; I wasn't aware that users made policy here. I can see that there is obviously some unspoken rule here that the lowly FPSC crowd has broken.

Quote: "I don't feel like discussing this, ending up going out of line and getting slapped or worse for naught."

Why would you get slapped? Unless you break the AUP, I can't see you getting slapped; least of all by me, since I've given up moderating here for awhile. Please, discuss how you feel; but try to do it in a constructive manner.

Quote: "FPSC games belong in the FPSC Showcase, not in W.I.P. nor in Program Announcements."

That's a pretty elitist attitude to take. I agree that the Dark Basic crowd has more to do to bring their creation to life, but don't take it out on the people who use FPSC to do just that. In the end, people who play your games (non-devs) don't care what it's made with.

Conversly; I also understand everyone's view that the WIP boards will become a dumping ground for "my first game" type of scenerios...concerning FPSC. This is what usually plagues the FPSC "Showcase" board; but there is no FPSC WIP board to fill the void. In my opinion, "Showcase" means a finished product; not a large room with haphazardly placed lights and 3 crates. But until a proper outlet is made for the FPSC crowd to put their WIP projects in, they continue to post in the most appropriate board we have available...which is the FPSC Showcase board.

To be fair, a DB WIP Board and a FPSC WIP Board need to be implimented. But, until that happens (or actual rules are implimented here); you'll have FPSC people dropping by with their projects.

I gotta say I really agree with tha_rami here, I even use fpsc, but I also use dbc. Fpsc games belong in the fpsc forums in my opinion, and db games here, it just doesn't seem right when all the hard work people are put through is pushed down by fpsc games(not saying it is super easy to make a game in fpsc, it's just SO much less effort goes into an fpsc game).

I'm not sure that the level of what goes into an FPSC game is less than some of the work I've seen from the DB side of the house. I've seen some pretty ingenious scripting being done. Of course; most of the best FPSC games I've seen have great custom art, well-placed lights and expert level design. It's just that FPSC does most of the work (code-wise) that would take a DB developer many moons to replicate. In other words, it's a tool. Like many of the plugins for DB. It's a timesaver for those who want to pursue a First Person-based game (not neccessarily a shooter).

Of course, FPSC has it's share of problems; some of which are worked on by various skilled programmers...in the form of Mods. But I still hold to the thought process of splitting the WIP Board into 2 seperate entities.

Until there is an FPSC WIP board, I think that wip FPSC games should go in FPSC Chat, FPSC Showcase, or Game Design Theory. The difference between an FPSC wip and a DBP wip is that until you have a story and good levels, with all the required scripts, very little WORK has actually gone into it! (Hence it not fitting in the Work In Progress board). Whereas, if you take something like Geisha House as an example, TONNES of work has gone into it! The gap between starting a DBP project, and finishing it is very long, which is why there is a whole board for it. The time for an FPSC game to go from an idea to an (almost) complete game is minimal, comparatively. Hence, there is currently no FPCS wip board.

I can see what Keith is saying, I mean the WIP section should be used to show the greatness of TGC's users and that whether or not you're a DB matter this place is good for showcasing.

But, FPSC users do have their own 'showcase' section, DB users don't - and I can understand the fear of a generic FPSC game being posted that pushes a game somebody is working hard on is being pushed further and further down the list onto page 2 to be ignored. If a project showed a stronger potential than your average FPSC game I can see it being accepted here. I think it's good to keep most FPSC games in the showcase section (though there is no rule and as we can see FPSC games here annoy people) And I don't think it's an elitist attitude, it's just a number of us don't want to encourage the FPSC guys to post all their projects here as it'll probably put in too many active threads.

False. Here's what the description under Program Announcements says:
Written something of quality in DarkBASIC or DarkBASIC Professional? Then post about it here! Please try and include download locations and screen shots if possible.

You're an FPSC moderator and you're talking about changes to the FPSC boards as if we all have to wait for a new board to fall out of the sky and plunk itself in the FPS Creator section of the forums. Maybe I'm placing too much power on the Moderators around here, but don't you have some kind of red batphone that goes right to the maintainer of the forums... a real live TGC employee? Contact whoever is in charge of the forums, tell them the nicely stated quote by you above, and get something done about it!

We have the same access any of you have (e-mail); though our addresses may not go to their spamfolders quite so much. The last I heard, Rich still helps out with the forums here, and he's a hard man to get ahold of since he's employed elsewhere.

Quote: "And I don't think it's an elitist attitude, it's just a number of us don't want to encourage the FPSC guys to post all their projects here as it'll probably put in too many active threads."

The way it was presented to me here by some people, made me feel it was that type of attitude. As I said, I can understand people here not wanting this board to turn into the occassional wasteland that is the FPSC Showcase board; but it shouldn't preclude the FPSC crowd from showing quality work here (obviously many of the pieces in the FPSC Showcase board, aren't anywhere near ready), such as those I've posted in the BOTB board.

One of these days I'll have to start playing with my copy of DBPro and learn to code a bit.

Honestly, after thinking about it a bit more; I can see the Dark Basic crowd's argument being more pertinent. Since I've never used my copy of DBPro to actually create anything, I can't produce a good enough argument in favor of one over the other...so I'll just agree to disagree at this point.

However, I still hold onto my assertion that the WIP Board should be split.

I agree the WIP board should be split. It should be split into a FPSC WIP and DBC/DBPro WIP.

A constructive argument is of no use. I won't convince you nor will you convince me. It'll only lead to frustration and disagreement while the current situation is good enough for me. WIP is for DBC/DBPro and should remain so.

I've always been in favor of high-quality FPSC stuff being in WIP. That is, stuff that already has received a BOTB-award. Anything else, not here please.

I think we can both agree with that; though the majority of those aren't WIPs anymore (except for the complete demos).

Honestly, I wouldn't wish the jungle of the FPSC Showcase on anyone at this point.

If the powers that be see fit to create an FPSC WIP board then we can begin cracking down on the Showcase Board.
