Oolite:Morrowinds been out for 5 years and I see alot of people playing that, but to be honest, Midtown madness was madness to me just you driving a car about nearly crashing into unsmackable civillians. Smashing into lamp-posts which actually can't be smashed.

Totally agree. I have mm1 and mm2, and mm3 on the X-Box. I thought the first one was way better. Ok, so basically it's the same engine and they made it slightly better in the sequel, but just the way the races worked seemed better in mm1. More moments when the CPU car would veer off on a different route, and more importantly if you followed the set route normally that would mean a better car or uber skills to win, whereas the fun was finding alternative quicker routes. mm2 IMO didn't have so much of that. It was normally the main route and that was it. Almost as if the original developers left the engine and retired to an island somewhere and some people who never really played mm1 picked it up.

mm3 on the other hand I played for nostalgia purposes. I had basically only gone to Paris about a month before I got the game so it was class seeing how close to the real thing it was

Wish they would make a new improved version, more like mm1, but with updated everything else

Oh, and even though I *loved* mm1, nothing beats Carmageddon (pretty close between 1st and 2nd for me). After a major amount of hassle I managed to get it (2nd one) working again on XP (Yay) last year. If you haven't played it then do. Awesome driving game. Everything else is just driving around.

Cheers

Carmageddon is easily one of my favourites of the retro driving, i remember when it came out and a lot of people were in uproar about it, personally, i loved it.

Didn't last long. In the end they brought it out with green blood and made people into zombies. Germans got robots apparently. Thats all ok then... Shortly after a blood pack came out in the shops which I, and loads of others I'm sure, promptly bought. All back to people getting run over with red blood rather than green blood zombies Think it had screams and the like rather than the "muuuggghhhh, brains.... mugggghhhh" type nonsense of zombies. So fantastic free PR for the publishers and they got to sell an add-on that pretty much everyone bought straight afterwards. Win win win. Apart from the censors. Bless 'em and their little (non-blood soaked) cotton socks.

BTW, does anyone remember an old (a couple of years or so) program on UK TV (either BBC or ITV I think) that interviewed the people who complain about things in writing about things like TV shows and games? Was fantastic viewing as you could tell the writers were very slightly leaning on taking the mick out of them. Didn't need much though. They all were in an outrage about a little skin (even a bathing suit), but thought it was outright government political correctness gone to hell about stopping the black and white minstral show. Nice. They also made the classic Nerd or Geek seem positively normal and well adjusted to society. Great stuff taking the piss out of well awkward people

Cheers
