I'd have to say its one of the greatest movies in a while. Man, I just loved it.

You can catch most of the great songs streamed from imeem.com

Anyone else see it?

Well, if you didn't, go watch it now. Though, I warn you, it's very very violent.

I didn't want to because I heard there was singing. Personally that ruins movie experiences for me.

Sweeney Todd was excellent! I loved every minute of it. I went in worried about how I'd feel about it being a musical, but it was great. And actually I'm discovering I enjoy musicals, dark and depressing or otherwise o_o

I like it, one of the few musicals I like, then again, it is from Tim Burton.

Yeh but he certainly didn't write the music.

I loved Sweeney Todd. I'm a huge musical fan.
I hope to see more of stephen sondheim's work hit the silver screen.

<Post of vast justice>

The Sweeney Todd Movie was good. Although I prefer the Broadway version myself I was very impressed with the movie. then again Tim Burton is a genius. It was funny how there where 3 actors from the Harry Potter Movies in this film.
I am big on acting and film and things of such.
So I think I appreciate it a bit more than some. I think people stereotype too much. They say "Oh its a musical? Its going to suck then." Which is entirely untrue. Yes there are some musicals that are bad but just because one is doesnt make them all bad. Thats like getting food poisoning from shrimp and then going around saying that all shrimp are bad and you will get food poisoning. I think people should really give things a chance because who knows maybe you will like what you see.
Sweeney Todd was up for many awards as well.
So I'm not the only one that thinks this way

Unfortunatly, I went into the cinema having been told it was a vampire movie by my girlfriend.

I'm not a musical fan, or Tim Burton fan to start with, so you can imagine my dismay when out of the entire movie there was roughly 10 minutes dialog and the rest was singing.

Worst. Movie. Ever. (IMHO )

Sweeney Todd was the worst movie I think I've ever seen. For one, Tim Burton is stupid. All his movies are dark and... stupid. The music didn't fit the movie at all. Singing just doesn't go in movies like that. The ending was stupid and made me want to break the disk. All in all, I hated every last minute of the movie.

~spoiler... i guess~

We do realize this was a musical right? I mean, they didn't just come up with the idea that singing would be a good idea.

The singing was great, the acting well above par. Anyone who doesn't like this movie is undoubtadly not meant to enjoy theater.

It was fantastic.

I wouldn't say that.

If I had worked my way up to it and was expecting it, I reckon I could have enjoyed it alot more (not as much as a normal movie, but more than I did)...

Jenkins, mate, you really need to get to know a little about it before you start to rip on it.

bit harsh there. Depp was great in this film. His acting was good. Sure, it might not be your style, but can you appreciate it in any way?

A. Sweeney Todd was originally a play...a musical play...thus singing must happen if anybody wanted to turn it into a movie.
B. Tim Burton isn't, he can't be, he can make movies that make him money and gain fans and pleases his audience. He must have something right in his head to do that.
C. The Music, well I can agree, the music itself I didn't suit it.

His movies appeal to his audience and because you don't like the movie or aren't in that audience doesn't make him or the movies stupid. Especially as his movies are well done, can be original in concept or in certain aspects and isn't just slapped together or follow a really generic storyline. I liked Sweeney Todd, aspects I didn't think as good as they could have been and the music, well not quite suitable and not as good as the world's greatest musical:

The Rocky Horror Show. (Come on, that's too genius)

I would say 1/3 of his movies are dark, and in that sort of fashion, look on IMDb

To save people time, his movies are (as a director):

The Island of Doctor Agor
Stalk of the Celery
Doctor of Doom
Hansel and Gretel
Luau
Vincent
Frankenweenie
Pee-wee's Big Adventure
Beetle Juice
Batman
Edward Scissorhands
Batman Returns
Ed Wood
Mars Attacks
Sleepy Hollow
The World of Stainboy
Planet of the Apes (2001)
Big Fish
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)
Corpse Bride
Sweeny Todd

So yeah, quite a few non-dark ones there. I suppose you could say Mars Attacks is a dark comedy, but probably would be just an alien invasion-type movie spoof.

And of course anybody who thinks those Batman movies are crap are fascists!

Big Fish is one of my favorite movies of all time, the fantasy is awesome! Edward Bloom is someone we should all aspire to be one day.

As for Sweeney, I personally went out and bought the soundtrack a week after seeing the movie, my fav song is Pretty Women and is my favorite scene in the movie itself. Now for naysayers... Its okay to not enjoy this type of musical but don't play down Depp or Burton. The singing segments were simply awesome and the movie leaked with style.

I'd love to see it on broadway myself, so yes Xeno, it was a good movie and one of the better ones in a while.

Sweeney Todd is a popular play and it became a popular movie...based on the success and amount of people it pleased, then saying it shouldn't have been turned into a movie isn't much of a justification. It just says you didn't enjoy it and have a grudge for watching it.

I personally like the idea of having a dark musical, musicals tend to be a bit crap in my opinion and there have been some made to appeal to other audiences and can be quite artistic and turn out to be enjoyable. You may not like musicals, or those kind of musicals or even for them to appear in a movie, but you don't have to watch them.

If you like grease only because everyone likes it, and if you didn't then you wouldn't feel like part of the group, then your opinion on Sweeney Todd is probably not yours entirely.

I'd watch the movie over and over again. The most amazing part of the movie was when he was 'reunited' with his 'friends'

You have a very hardline stance that gives little room for other peoples opinions. If you think a film with music sucks, then it must be a crap film. I have a cousin just like that, and I'd call him a redneck The lets-go-shooting-at-road-signs-and-fish type

BTW, im not meaning to be offensive, more of a punch to the shoulder "Oh you idiot" kind of thing.

Never seen the movie. Didn't know it was a musical, but now that I do, I don't like musical movies. In my own opinion, if I want to listen to music, I'll buy a CD, if I want to watch a movie, then I WANT TO WATCH A MOVIE - not a "music video." If I wanted to watch a music video I'd watch MTV.

Johny Depp is a good actor. I quite enjoyed him the most in Pirates of the Carribean (I spelled that wrong). I find it amusing how he can look COMPLETELY different in every movie he does.

Cheers,
