Go to Newcomers' Corner, and at the top there is a thread called "Tutorials Thread". You will find all your answers there

Don't you just hate that Zotoaster guy?

I'm glad you take being a noob responsibly, we hate all the people that come in that are like "I'm gonna make a game! It's going to be so sweet!" and they dont know how... I was like that 3ish years ago.

the demo version isn't really good for learning becuase it is only 30 days, granted it is helpful, but to get more experienced you will need months/years to get excellent at it,

Im the book, i am on page 200+ and so far there has only been one game tutorial, and that was a text game with only about 20+ lines of coding. The book starts from the basics and has lots of examples on everything you need to know.

So far i am on chapter 7 'data sequences and arrays' and so far it is very confusing, but ive only started the chapter. everything else in the book has been very helpful to me so far.

so good luck, and enjoy your 700+ page book. =D

hey dan i just checked out some of your threads. i see you use wings 3D so i gave it a quick look. that program seems to eat up alot of memory and runs slow. i use a few different ones, one of the best is free but has a learning curve, it is called gmax and can be downloaded at http://www.skan.ru/en/software/n939_gmax.html
i have purchased milkshape for $35 and it is easy and very powerful 3D software for building 3D models. i also use 3D world studio for building maps and 3D objects, the cost of that was $120 for the builder version. all three are great and the last 2 are very easy to use. gmax has more of a 3dstudio max feel and learning curve but it is free.

thanks for all the help, peorge

Are you spying on me?

I have just started modeling and wanted a free program to see how good i was, wings3d came to mind so i downloaded that, so dar it doesnt run slow for me, it works fine. Im also saving on 3d world studio but i would rather buy a disk copy (if they sold it as a disk, im not sure) Because my pc is always getting viruses and all my files get corrupt, just like wings 3d and dark basic, i have to re-install like all the time becuase of corrupted data, im looking to doing a re-install of my windows, im just trying to get rid of the virus before i re-install.

Are they really that sad?

I think as my sigs width is smaller than allowed, that my hight should be a little more =D
Why does that 30px matter, my sig looks small enough already.

try milkshape, the demo allows you to save and everything and i think it has many more options than 3dws, also you can export to 3dws. milkshape is only $35. here is the link.

i hope the mods dont delete your sig, i like it. did you make it? how?

here is one of my first models i did with milkshape 3D. it is a electrical control relay made in 1946 still used today in the railroad industry. http://www.usrailfans.com/Relay5.html
my next task is to make it animated to wher the contact arms move up and down and then i want to program a switch into it to control up and down posistions for the contacts. the game i want to create is a railroad maintainer simulation game where you will recieve calls from the dispatcher and have to respond to them in your work truck, get track time and troubleshoot the problem. there will also be a bit of fun where you might get a call to the bad part of town and someone tries to rob you so you beat the crap out of them with a switch wrench. overall it will be a real life sim-shooter-rpg. large project but no hurry to get it done. learn and build is what this is all about.
there are a few other drawings using 3dws here...

let me know what you guys think of these and dont forget im a noob

dan958 her is a quick 15 minute model i just did with milkshape 3D just to show you how easy it is. i have only put about 20 hours into using this software. i only actually nade one bullet and used, duplicate, move and rotate to put in the other two.

http://www.usrailfans.com/bullet.html

here is one i just tossed together this morning while having my coffee before work, approx 10min work.

http://www.usrailfans.com/bottle.html

my next step is to learn shadowing and shading.

I use ms3d myself. Very easy to use. Can't make anything extremely detailed (easily), but it's nice for lowpoly models.

Hurray for teh logd!
