The most awsome game ever!

Here's the links

http://fretsonfire.sourceforge.net/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frets_on_Fire

Quote: "Frets on Fire is a Finnish music video game created by Unreal Voodoo in which players use the keyboard to play along with scrolling on-screen musical notes to complete a song, and is a clone of the Guitar Hero video game series. [2] Frets on Fire was the winner of the Assembly (demo party) 2006 game development competition."

It's basically like Guitar Hero. Downloading now.

Cheers,

-naota

You can import Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero 2, and Guitar Hero 80's songs.

I haven't played it yet - need to get home first.

Played it for a while, but since I installed vista I haven't bothered to play it. Here's a list of good songs that play well.

Disturbed - Stricken
Breaking Benjamin - Breakdown
Slipknot - Before I Forget
Blue Oyster Cult - Don't fear the reaper
Muse - Knights of Cydonia

I believe you can use an xbox guitar controller with the USB port to play Frets on Fire, if you don't like using the keyboard...

I use this as a Guitar Hero 3 replacement - it's much better coded, and is actually playable as a result.

Not sure what you mean by that, Frets on Fire has crashed on me multiple times.

Frets on Fire is AWSOME. I imported all the Guitar Hero 3 songs, but I don't have an MP3 to OGG converter so I can't port over any slipknot or disturbed

Sorry to bump a 5 day old thread, I just noticed someone responded.

That's pretty cool looking. I'll have a look to see if it's any easier to play than Frets on Fire (I don't like the joypad setup on FoF because I get confused when trying to hit the "strummer" in combination with notes in the same general area as the strummer. :/

I have a PS2 guitar hero controller and no money. I can't do any mode above medium in FoF on the keyboard (Without "cheating"). I tried the joypad, failed when it came to notes past the green and red. :/

For anyone who have a PS2 guitar controller or the wired 360 one there are USB converters you can buy. Then you either use it as a regular joystick or you get Xpadder and map it to keyboard keys. I can get a reading from everything on my SG except the whammy.

@Accoun
My keyboard sucks. It's not a "gaming" keyboard, it came with my computer. The only thing I like about my keyboard is the keys are "easy" to press, versus some keys which feel like there's some sort of "anti-pressing" function under the key causing it to go down and up slowly - I've seen and used many keyboards like that - I hate them.

@Digital Awakening
That's pretty cool. The problem here is I have no "spare" money. But I thought I could just simply connect the XBox360 controller to my computer (The wired kind) and use it -- You can do so with XInput, but I don't know if this was programmed into it or not. If it wasn't I *might* be able to make a hooking program to read the xbox controller then send the key messages to FoF -- sounds advanced, but with proper documentation I'm sure I could do it - with an Xbox360 controller anyways. :/

Just download the 360 driver from Microsoft, and map the keys directly. It's what I do.

Oh, guess that'd work.

Either way, I still need a 360 controller (Starts looking through dumpsters).

I tried Guitar Zero, btw... I didn't really look through the documentation, but it appears to only be able to work with the guitar itself. I changed the config file to attempt to get keyboard working, but that didn't work. After trying that I decided it wasn't worth it - Frets on Fire is already working, the only difference I see is graphics.

Cheers,

-naota

I've already got a PS2 GH controller - but it's wireless, is that a problem? (I can get a wired one at GameStop for like $20 -- but I don't even have $5).

Aaron Miller:
The wireless guitars for PS2 have a receiver that you plug into a regular PS2 port so it's just like a wired one, but no wire Just get a USB converter and Xpadder (if needed).

BTW, I got one of those converters that takes 2 PS2 controllers, if you ever wanna play anything with a friend just plug in 2. Since you have a PS2 guitar you probably have 2 Dualshocks right?

Well, this should be no problem. I'm using an old IBM keyboard (from times whet a mouse had 2 buttons & no scroll ) and it's big & heavy - try to play 2-3 hours when your hand might start to hurt after 30 min of playing. Nothing's impossible...

Yes, first Guitar Zero works only with a controller, but Guitar Zero 2 (A.K.A GuitarStar - I'm using it) warks also with keyboard...

There's also failing + Star Power + better Performance + Multiplayer (Coop and Face Off/Pro Face Off)...

Failing and Star Power are in Frets on Fire. I don't know what you mean by better performance though, they run about the same to me. I can't find a need for multiplayer though - but there's multiplayer in Frets on Fire.

I'll have a look for Guitar Star.

EDIT:
I found it. They have it up on Rapid Share. I HATE rapid share. They do too much for someone to just download a damn file, and then call it "easy." You know what's easy? Not doing this.

With mods

Well, you can say that FoF is like FireFox and GZII is like Opera. One is worse, but with mods it will be cooler/better/pwning-all etc, but the other one is better at start but has less customization...

Quote: " don't know what you mean by better performance though"

FoF is made in Python (with PyGame) and GS is made in C# (with XNA) so I don't have to say which ine is faster. And you probably have a better PC than me because on mine there is a big diffrence in performance...

For some reasons, Guitar Star needs SM 2.0. Isn't it a bit much for a static backdrop taken from Guitar Hero ?
