The PlayStation brand is so much stronger than the Xbox brand, so if anything it was smart of Microsoft to acquire exclusive content to put the first step down in the GTA race. Anyone else remember Peter Moore's tattoo

Actually as a test last night I went on the Xbox Live store and the PSN--- you've pretty much listed out most of the exceptions to the rule
Most expansions and add-ons cost money. They'll usually tempt us with 1 free thing (i.e. a Pinball table for Zen Pinball), and then offer premium content down the road. It just doesn't make economic sense for a company to spend time making things for free anymore.
EDIT:
@DA - While I agree from a gamer's point of view, from an industry point of view nothing good can come from an "everything's the same on every console" industry. Some people are supporting the one console future theory--- I say a) it will *never* happen and b) it's anti-competitive, and dangerous for business.
I think it's great for those of us who have the 3 systems, because the consumer benefits from extra perks. I would probably be more critical of it if I just bought a Wii and wasted $200 on a system with a severe shortage of non-shovelware.
