At my own risk, I'm willing to start this thread. I think it is important that people can express their opinion, and be able to do so without any hostility towards others.

I am just finishing a year of learning Philosophy, so naturally I have experimented with independent thinking, and I personally feel that people are being forced to hold back their opinions of things, when really it's only the angry types that cause arguments.

I read the AUP, and it states that there should be no threads about religion, and as much as I respect the AUP, I think it's possible to talk about something in a kind orderly manner, especially as it is such a massive subject around the world.

I have a lot of thoughts to put forward to people as I am really passionate about what I think, so if people are willing to not get into flamewars about this, I hope this thread can go on; otherwise, Mods, feel free to lock it immediatelly. I know it's a fradgile subject, but I believe we can hold it together. Just please don't ban me, heh.

Sure it's a massive topic around the world, but it has nothing to do with games and technology. Why would TGC, a game development tools company, which to have flame-heavy sensitive threads that have nothing to do with their business sector?

Also, while it may be possible for some people to have a friendly discussion on abortion, evolution, and politics, the majority of people who frequent these kinds of forums are not capable of doing so. It would be a nightmare for mods to have to edit, delete, and clean up posts in threads all day just because of those who can't keep it flame free.

EDIT:

I just remembered that it is possible to express your views without being so blunt. If you recall the Alien UFO thread from last week you could see where many of us stood on the topic, as well as the origin of man, but it didn't get out of hand. Expressly making a thread with a pro-evolutionary stance will be immediately locked, however.

I think it can be done with the same subtleness. Explicitly stating your stance shouldn't really make a difference since the others will know what you mean anyway.

So let's get the subtle ball rolling. I'll start with bringing up other "supernatural forces" that humans have invented in the past, and what makes them any different from many modern beliefs.

Actually I wasn't aware that this thread was created to discuss religion, but rather to discuss the AUP. We can't condone a talk on religion, as it's against the AUP, set in forth by TGC. Sorry, but them's the rules

...and it was created as an addendum because of the problems it caused. It is actually impossible to have this type of conversation on here. It also spills out into other threads, where people disagree on everything because of the prejudices in the thread on religion.
