Hm, I am bored of the Space Invaders clone, so what do you think I should do? Something that is a little challenging, but able for my ability to do.

What I can do:
Functions
Arrays
Save
Basic AI
Procedures
Character Control

But, I need something that will push that, but I still wanna stick with 2-D, so what would you advise?

Pong, or look for one of the classics. If you're really looking for a challenge, try Pac-Man.

Personally, I'd say not to "clone" any games, but being 2d that does make it a tad difficult as many, many 2d games have been made. Seems if you think of something it's already been done. Best of luck though.

i like to make quirky little programs so maybe they will inspire you
The gas diffusion and sand are pretty cool cellular ones.
The articulated skeleton is cool too.

It is far better to complete a 10 line program than to start a 10,000 line program.

Next step could be AI, though 'pacman' demands a bit AI from the hunters (shortest way to target) and the movement is more complicate than pong or invaders because there are walls to look for. This would be a very good next step. Add some figures on your side which run from the hunters and there is just more AI to implement.

make the sprites last, just use coloured boxes for now.
Things change a lot during any game development; if you design the sprites now you may find they are unusable for the final game.

It is far better to complete a 10 line program than to start a 10,000 line program.

I'd make 2-d space shooter similar to k star patrol. K Star Patrol was a spaceship that only goes up and down and always goes right. You shoot at invading ships that can morph from small to big or big to small. Best,
