This is a general query to help other GH2 players out there with beating Jordan on expert.

The farthest I've made it is 56% (Expert).

Here are the tips I can give that got me a little bit farther:
* This one should be obvious, PRACTICE the hard parts of the song, slow it down if you need to so you can see the notes.
* Use hammer-ons and pull-offs where you can. It keeps your strumming arm from getting tired.
* On some sections you can hold down the left note, and hit the right note as necessary. This helps you from getting confused. I don't think you can hold down both notes at once, but if you can that makes the song MUCH easier. Figure 1 is a simple ASCII illustration of what I mean.
* Get as much star power as you can, save it until you start going down the yellow (If you're in the red and try to use it, you might lose, hence why in the yellow and going down because it'll keep you up a bit higher).
* Sometimes it's better to miss a note than hit the wrong one. If you don't think you're gonna hit the right note, don't hit the strummer. Figure 2 shows another ASCII illustration of what I mean.

I ask that anyone with general tips for playing this song post them too.

PS: I'm by no means "good" at this game, my recommendations were based on my own results, and may change from person to person.

Cheers,

Same here, and I'm about 1K from a 5-star. Same with Six, the fast strumming just doesn't seem challenging anymore. Anyways, I don't really have many tips.

-Unless you're gonna tap the trills with two hands, don't try to use HO/POs there. Just move your fingers fast while strumming.

-In all parts of the solos without trills you should use HO/POs.

That's about it.

You've gotta own GH3 in order to play TTFAF, legally anyways.

I'm struggling with Jordan though - can't imagine playing TTFAF though. I've seen some videos of it. I think I can do a few parts of TTFAF (Part as in entire sections - not the first one though).

I just learned HO/POs though (Yesterday), so I'm not that good at 'em, but I can do 'em.

Ironically, I'm listening to Through the Fire and Flames right now. Next is some Operation Ground and Pound, then some Black Fire. <Sorry, off topic>

The devil went down to georgia is much more fun and harder than ttaf, so yeah. TTFAF isn't really all that good anyways.

Ahh, it's not all that hard. It does prepare you more for Jordan, though. But the only parts your really have to watch out for are Twin Solo (super-fast descending triplets), So Far Away III (Red Snake), and Bridge I (mostly the end).

Vid of Twin Solo (the end is the hard part): http://youtube.com/watch?v=7bLfFig9AbI
Vid of Red Snake: http://youtube.com/watch?v=-zSmhDa9WRE
Vid of Bridge I (I couldn't find an FC of it on full speed anywhere, so the vid is of it on Slow in practice): http://youtube.com/watch?v=rpOIEnQ_OzQ

Ya, I like TDWDTG more because there's a lot more solos and less fast strumming. Much more fun.

That's my favorite song (Not only in Guitar Hero, but in general)!

It looks difficult, but I always though TTFAF was harder

I can't play expert on GH2 very well, only because I don't own the game and therefore don't have time to practice much. I have GH3 though. I have to say, playing some of the songs on expert is harder than it is to do on a real guitar(that goes for GH2 also) I can play Knights of Cydonia on a real guitar, but I can't beat the song on expert because of the galloping threes part. That part is actually HARDER than it is to do on a real guitar. You don't have to move frets until you've strummed the string 8 times. You can just hold them down. On GH3, you have to move buttons over and over. It's annoying.

I think you're talking about about Hammer Ons and Pull Offs?

I'm slowly getting better and better at HO/PO but I'm not playing as much as I used to, far from it. I almost got 5 stars on Gemini and Institutionalised. Six is quite some ways to go but I've not played it much either. I can't remember how far I've gotten on Jordan as I've not played it for ages.

From what I've heard people usually get 4 stars on Jordan the first time they beat it because they have practiced every part of the song for quite some time. I rarely play in practice mode as I find that quite boring, which is probably the biggest reason why I'm not good at the hardest song.

Another reason is that I've not played the hardest songs as much as the easier ones. I'm putting more time into that now but since I'm not playing so much anymore I'm not improving very fast. If GH3 didn't bore me to death when I play it I would probably be playing a lot more. I played a lot of GH3 at first but since I much more prefer the style and sound quality of GH2/80s I play those instead.

I can get 65% of the way through Jordan. Only problem I seem to have with Through The Fire and the Flames is the intro. I find the end of One, The Devil Went Down to Georgia, and the mosh in Raining Blood to be much harder.

Hmmm, on the intro to TTFAF you just have to tap (two hands), usually with left on GRY and right on BO.

The ending of One is easy to pass if you hold down the bottom and mash the other frets.

DWDTG (the solos, I'm assuming), you should just move your fingers as fast as possible while strumming like crazy, don't even go for HOPOs.

Raining Blood Mosh I, make sure you don't hold down any one fret for more than like 1/10th of a second, or it won't register the next fret you play because it's lower.

Hope that helps, though it probably won't.

Ya, I think it's also because most of the song isn't even hard, it's mainly Solos B and C that make everybody do so bad.

I don't know about anyone else, but whenever I move my middle finger, I slightly move my ring finger (For both hands). Anyone have a higher level of control over those fingers by chance?

Ya, that happens to me, to, but it doesn't really make it harder to play, in fact I didn't even really notice until just now.

*Sometimes* it gets in my way. After a while of playing, I end up getting more control over it, though in return for me ending up being better at songs (Once I get more control over it), my hand starts to hurt quite a bit.

Here's a video of Ben beating it, I saw 1 technique, but it doesn't really help. At the beginning of the song just hold down the green button.

Cheers,
