So you have been working hard all week writing code for the next bigger than life software program. Or maybe you have been finding new ways to keep the company employees from accessing their online mail accounts all week long. Are you a geek all week? Well I just want to know what it is a true geek does on their day off. More programming? Internet chat rooms for a steamy Friday night Rendezvous or maybe just sit home and watch a sci-fi movie. Let us know, what does a geek do on an off day.

Being a geek is my day off, I'm one of those who took up programming as a hobby. So my day off from programming is either to do another hobby (like playing games) or getting on with less casual things.

Getting lots of programming done, getting off track, spending hours goofing off in your own game (which helps uncover glitches).

In no particular order: Movies, books, anime, TV series or games. I usually mix some or all of them.

During working hours I do geek stuff for money but for someone else's benefit. During my time off, I do it for free but on stuff that interests me.

On my odd days off I like to visit friends, which is really the only way I can escape geekdom, if I don't get out of the house I end up in front of the PC. Nice long bar lunches are a great way to spend a day off, maybe not so fun if you have work the next day. I usually prefer to take long weekends (Friday and Monday off) than a whole week, I'd much rather have 3 long weekends than a week off - damn I miss bank holidays!.

When I have a week or so off, I often watch a lot of movies, once I had a week off before the 2nd series of LOST, so I spent the whole week watching season 1. That's pretty geeky, but it's certainly something to do, beats staring into the abyss, dreading the inevitable return to work.

I do sometimes write the odd tech demo when on holiday, but like IanM I prefer not to work on proper projects, even though it is a hobby I spend a vast amount of time on, it is good to take a break from serious coding altogether. Last time I think it was that weird crystal worm demo, there's nothing better than a totally simple, organic concept that looks pretty to keep you occupied.

Can't believe it took this long for someone to mention girls

If you don't, then it's not really a day off, is it? Nah I'm j/k.

Uhm, TV, guitar, food, going out, etc.

Don't you just hate that Zotoaster guy?

Moddeling, textureing, level design, kicking it back reading a book, playing some CS, making films in CS with my friends, making tutorials( not exactly my faviourite hobby, but its fun.)
Playing in Photoshop, and then shopping.

Yes, copious amounts of coffee. Sometimes beer. When I was single I would meet friends and try to pick up girls. Now that I'm married I'll spend time with my wife--- together time.

Shame she's on Vancouver Island right now

To tell you the truth, Im not a geek in the "real world", Im still in school, so my day off would be the weekends.

I like to go over my friends houses', talk to people on myspace and aim. I am a kid who mostly hangs out with all the preps. Sometimes I do like to play my Xbox though. Most of my time goes into basketball, I love playing that.

If we are all naturally into geeky things, why would we take a day off? That would be contradicting ourselves. We'd be living a lie. Me? I'm not really a geek. I like geeky and non-geeky things. I'm somewhere in between. And no, I'm not in denial. I'm quite proud of my geeky tendencies. Now excuse me as I go off to read more forum posts.

I am a self-confessed geek. On my days off I either play football with my non-geeky friends or I play on one of my many games consoles, maybe I just sit around thinking about how great my game is going to be when I finish it, though I never get round to doing any more with it (I'm too lazy!) However I'll open up DBP right now to work on it. Thank you for reading this pointless and boring message.

Beach. Although we are going for a cold snap at the minute (about 24c or about 75f) so not so good as it can be. Brrr...

But then my bird was visiting (move in with her soon). I honestly admit if I was on my own at the time (bank holiday) then I would have got on with my really fun current DBP project. And you can see the sea from here. Sad I know...

Cheers

I may have forgotten to mention that I am an entity that is made up entirely of the souls of small children (not snotty ones though). Very compact though. Like Spam. Without the ground up bones and eyeballs obviously. So on the weekend I intend to be very far away from you... You will never find me on the beach... doh...

Cheers
