Since I have been bitten with the "modding" bug I have set up a workshop in my garage, stocked it with the necessary tools (some I had, some I didnt) and have begun to try my hand at modding. For my first real project I have decided to try out some cable management on the already roomy CoolerMaster Cosmos 1000. I posted a complete pictoral work-log on Overclock.net (Case Modding General forum) which you can view at: http://www.overclock.net/case-mods-general-discussion/327933-complete-my-first-mod-cable-management.html

here's two pics from the current status (98% complete), but do see the entire work log for details including "way before", "before", and all the steps along the way. Cheers!

edit: and btw, youll note I ditched the stock cooler for that big shiny TRUE 120 (Thermal Right Ultimate 120 Extreme)

EDIT: Two newer "finished" pics below...

Nice cable management. Looks like a nice air-cooled machine.

Haha now it works, before all that was loading in place a a picture was a black square.

It looks nice man. Very clean. How much of a difference did it make?

shame i dont like that case

I have 3 questions:

1. whats the airflow like?
2. whats that black box at the bottom? is it a fan housing or something?
3. What CPU cooler is that?

thank you. In regards to air flow I am sure it makes some difference to have the wires well hidden compared to al over the place. The link to the work log will show you what I mean. It was more about asthetics at the moment

1-I have no measurement atm, since I may get stronger case fans and a controller, but I wont know that until I decide to overclock it a bit or not. The mobo has rpm control based on temps.
2-yes that box is a 120mm case fan housing, bottom intake. That circular part on it can rotate to aim the air flow at different parts of the case/mobo
3-thats the TRUE baby! TRUE=ThermalRight Ultrta 120 Extreme, which is a mouthful, so people tend to just call it TRUE. Its one of the best, if not the best air cooling solutions for cpus, but there are other ones almost as good. Its a monster but is not expensive - just hard to find. It dropped my cpu temps about 8c less than the stock cooler, not lapped. The 38x120mm fan on it is a 4 pin PWM fan, idles at 450 rpm and will ramp up on temp changes The case fans idle at about 1000-1100 rpm, everything nice and silent for now.

the work log link is worth a look, lots of cool pics
thanks

I have an aftermarket vga cooler coming today for the 8800gts. I ordered the Zalman VF1000 + the sink kit RHS88 (for 8800 series). I want to see if I can get better temps on the gpu since my Arctic Silver 5 job didnt go too well lol
http://www.overclock.net/nvidia/328344-complete-8800-gts-320-arctic-silver.html - epic phail!

theres plenty of head to head comparisons between coolers, you just gotta search around a bit and find the ones youre interested in. TechPowerUp and Tom's Hardware are pretty good for comparisons/reviews. Air cooled temp tests mean nothing when not using a static ambient is good to remember. I went with the true since so many people (overclockers) tend to swear by it, plus its rated tops in mostly all comparisons/reviews - at least at the moment.

some further tidying...

Finished shot 3

Finished shot 4

Only thing left now is to sleeve up the fan cables, and the gpu cooler fan cable, and the case wires. Then sand/prime/paint the inside of the case door that you can see thru the stock wire openings.

absolutely

in fact, it was running during the photo-take.
theres some people that are more insane and remove the 24 pin power connectors and solder the wires to the mobo points - lol
