It's easier with Dreamweaver in my opinion because of the validation and just the fact it does most of the tagging for you.

I just developed this site for my church. Someone else did the graphic work, I just built the site. What do you guys think?

The site is for information about our Capital Campaign (basically a fundraiser) to buy a building. Thus far we've gotten by with renting schools, but we've grown so much we need our own building. I think the site looks pretty stellar. For my first time at doing some professional work for someone, I think this is a good start no?

@Sid That's a nice looking site. A lot of optimization could be done to it however. Such as, not using tables. The whole site seems to be a bunch of cut up images. That's not very user friendly. You want a site to really, be as little images as possible. That's not to say images are bad, but images require setup, more so than most. Since this is a church website, I'd assume we'll have oldies who have a hard time seeing. If that's the case, you'd want to alt="" the images, so they can have their computers read to them. Of course, the average user won't notice anything.

All in all, nice design, could use some optimization.

Thanks That's what I get for working with a graphic designer though. As I said above, someone else did the graphical work and I programmed it. She made the template in Photoshop, sent me the file, and I had to slice it up. PS automatically exports in tables, but I like tables to begin with anyway.

I tried as much optimization as possible with jpg's and gif's and things like that but it still loads a little slow sometimes. But there are a lot of images though.

After working with photoshop and dreamweaver, I don't think I'd build a site any other way.

Actually our church has a fairly young age range, but yes your right, I still need to add in some alt tags some places.

I'd try using PNG-24's for web graphics. They work better than JPEG's because they support transparency. And although GIF's also support transparency, they are much more lossy. The color range for a GIF ins't as good as a PNG-24. Not a bad site though.

For those who don't know, to save as a PNG-24 in Photoshop, you DON'T just go "File>save as>PNG".
You have to go "File>save for web and devices" and set the settings to PNG-24.

I personally would advise avoiding PNG24's for about the next year or so until all mainstream browsers PROPERLY support it... A fair few people are still stuck on IE6 which doesn't support PNG24 (it has issues even if there is no transparency). Other browser can have issues too.

My personal favorite is a PNG-256 which has been run through PNGOut (a PNG optimizer).

Sid, the church site is nice! As has been said - a little image-heavy... but still a nice look.
