Tell me what you think. http://maindric.com/

If you wish, join my forums, but I am mainly posting this for critique. I have yet to add tutorials, and I would like it if you can send me to some good ones, wither you made or someone else. I will have to contact who originally made it, but it will most likely end up on my site. So, tell me what you think. (Ignore the yellow ad at the top.)

Its a good start. At the moment, obviously a little empty, also Not sure if I like the fact its all aligned to the left with such a big gap to the right, probably adds to the empty feeling.

Also don't be afraid do splash a little colour in. While it can be easier to opt for the black and white approach, if you experiment with colour, things look a little more interesting.

Also make the link click-able in posts. Just highlight the url and click the link button above the emoticons.

Not hard to do:

Oh yeah, forgot to do that. Thanks. For the color, I just wanted to get my site made and finished with a decent looking color combo. I like black and white, and the res of my combinations looks like crap, so I just settled with this. Once I finish my site, I will work on a different color scheme.

You don't have to go mental on colours. If you like the silver/black look, you can add colour in subtle places, like links, borders etc.

I've only used one colour here, and it really does brighten up the image.

Heh, it looks better, but one problem. You are MUCH better at photo shop and all, and I am not that great. You know WHERE and HOW to apply the colors to look good. I am working on it to get better at it, but I am not going to implement it on my site until I get good enough to make it look presentable. But I do intend to adding color at one point or another.

Just use other sites as an example. It's ok to take basic ideas or color schemes from this or that and try them out on your own. Afterall no matter what you do on a website design you're almost bound to copy some website some where by accident

You will quickly get better when you start to play about more. I've only really just started to get to grips with the whole design thing, I still class myself as "not that great". But the more you play about with the programs the more you will learn, have fun with it, don't feel the pressure of getting things wrong.

Most of the techniques I use I have come up with myself, either by accident or just keeping working on a certain task, until I come up with a way of achieving my goal.

Only just yesterday I came up with a groovy method for painting Pixar style clouds.

Just via experimentation.

Havent you seen his tutorial thread?

Agreed- the site looks good, but basic, colorless and empty.

Nice sig BiggAdd. I think I like this one the best so far.

there's a slight problem with the text in firefox.

you should avoid using <font> and any other formatting tags, setting the font with an external CSS style sheet is much cleaner.

Looking good so far, Maindric. One thing I will say though, its often not a good idea to put a "news" or "last updated" type thing on your site. I know a lot of sites do it, but unless you can find the time to consistantly update your site every couple of days, its best not to have the "News" thing.
What if you get sick, go on vactaion, have a big project you have to rush and finish, ect... and you can't update your site for a week and a half? People will come to your site, see that it hasn't been updated for a week and a half, and just leave. They'll say "Oh, he hasn't updated since we were last here, theres no reason to stay. See ya."
This, along with hit counters, are some things you should avaoid.
(hit counters are only good if they have a really high number of hits. otherwise, people say "I'm only the 138th person to visit? I'm outta here.)

EDIT: also, I just tried your search bar, and it doesn't work. (image attached.)

Only had $10, could buy a domain for a year, with free hosting including 10GB space, and 300GB bandwidth. Best plan I could find, but thanks.

Hm, I have fire fox and mine does not look like that... May be the screen res? And I do not type my own HTML, I have a site builder, so I do not know how to change that. I only know the very crappy basics of html.

Hm... I think something is wrong with google, there ads I put on there are not showing either. 0.o

Edit:
I found what was wrong, and I will remove it soon. I may not put it back up, but I decided to remove it.

Biggadd, the cloud is amazing. I hope you cover it in a tutorial, it'd be great as a sprite for a 2d game.

LOL! Make the logo bigger! ROTFLMAO! Lol... Sorry, it's sort of an inside joke. I'm a multimdia student, and theres this HUGE joke within the multimedia/graphic design community, where the Client ALWAYS says they want their logo bigger. And WE, the designers know that that is a bad idea. There's this video called O.D.G (Original design Gangsta) somewhere on youtube, I'll have to find it a put a link to it, Its a great vid, even if your not savvy to all the design jokes. Lol, MAKE THE LOGO BIGGER!

P.S. In your case, I actually WOULD make the logo a TINY,TINY bit bigger. But not too much!
...My professors would kill me if the knew I just told someone it was a good idea to make the logo bigger...

I may advise you use 110mb.
They place no Ads on your site and give you
5GB of Space (Not as much but will you ever need even 1GB?)
300GB Bandwidth (And they upgrade you to 1TB if you run out!)

Was cool kid
