Hi

I already have DBPro, but I am thinking about making a game for new and old computers alike. My question is: Is DBC faster than DBPro on older computers?

If I were to play a 2D game made in DBC on a very old computer with a low range graphics card, would it be possible to get 30 FPS, if not higher? I've heard the sprite commands are very slow in both DBC and DBPro. What is DBC's main workaround?

Thanks,
z_man

S3? The crappiest piece of crap ever? That chip is like 10 years old, and probably the worst DX incompatible chip of all time! Its like saying ships with bigger holes sink faster!

@ z_man

Depending on the age of the computer you'll also have to consider the operating system. If the older computer is running windows 98 maybe even windows 95, I think you'd only be able to run a DBC program and not a DBPro program. It depends on the Direct X version that is on the old PC. If you compiled the DBPro program with the lastest directx updates, it won't run on an older operating system that doesn't have the same version of direct x. DBC might catch you a break though.

Enjoy your day.

Yes. It's quicker, both in terms of code execution performance and render performance. PB v1.63 editions (and bellow) use Direct Draw interface and only require DirectX3 to operate. Editions higher than PB V1.63 use the DirectX7 interface with a mixture of direct draw and direct 3d.
