Sorry.
It seems my website has gone down. I don't know why
Meanwhile I will try to find somewhere else to host the latest demo ... watch this space

I have uploaded the latest demo to a file sharing site until I find out what is wrong with my own.

I wasn't planning on providing a demo of the current build until some more fixes have been carried out but since people want to try it and they can't try an older version, I have rushed this one out.

Because it is a rushed demo there are a few know bugs:
1) The cargo bay may not display correctly if in a resolution other than 1280x1024
2) Asteroids can sometimes be seen through some areas of the HUD.
3) The cargo bay [display] doesn't completely clear itself between levels.
4) The Homing Missile gets confused and doesn't always go where you expect.

Any other bugs you find please let me know so that I can fix them for the next build

Controls:

Left arrow - Rotate left
Right arrow - Rotate right
Up arrow - Thrust
Down arrow - Reverse Thrust
A - Strafe left
D - Strafe right
S - Shoot
F - Use Tractor Beam
Left Shift - Shield
Left Ctrl - Eject Cargo
Page Up - Scroll forwards through Cargo
Page Down Scroll backwards through cargo

Debug keys
F1 - Single bullet
F2 - Double bullets
F3 - Triple bullets
F4 - Quadruple bullets
F5 - Quintuple bullets
Keypad 0 - Fire SX Chav (formerly know as Super Spinner Weapon)
Keypad 1 - Fire Cluster Bomb
Keypad 2 - Fire Power Missile
Keypad 3 - Fire Homing Missile

In this demo you have an infinite shield but you can't use tractor beam or fire weapons when using it!
You also have infinite special weapons but you must fire them with the debug shortcut keys.

Pressing the Space Bar was used as a debug test to scroll the special weapon display a random amount ... not very useful to anyone except me but it isn't a bug.

I think that is everything you need to know to enjoy the game. Please do provide feedback (good or bad) and please report any bugs you find.

Thank you

That was really cool. I did find one bug, and I don't know if this is solveable or not,but when I shot one of the asteroids, it didn't blow up.

Also, could you put a thing where if you press a key you stop. I ended up flying around the screen really fast and having no idea what was happening and getting really dizzy. I mean, if that is one of the obstacles in the game, then I really am terrible.

Thanks for the feedback

That is not a bug, that is by design. The large asteroids take 3 shots to break, the medium ones take 2 shots and the small ones take a single shot.

If you mean put in a key to slow you down, then it is already there. Use reverse thrust. If however, you mean put in a key that brings your ship to a dead halt, then sure, I could do it, it is technically possible and easy to impliment but there is no way I am going to. What would be the fun in that?

Yeah, it was a small one, I shot it dead on and nothing happened.

Yeah, when I use that, I am usually spinning and that just makes me go faster.

Maybe I should just get better at the game....

Awesome game by the way!

I have play tested this to death and never seen that. Since you mentioned it, I have been trying over and over to repeat it but I can't.
Are you sure it was one of the small asteroids you hit?
Are you sure you hit it?
If so, what happened?
Did the bullet pass through and nothing changed?
Did the bullet stop with no change?
Did the bullet stop and particles of debris come off the asteroid but not split it?

... and most importantly, can you repeat it?

I'd appreciate your feedback because it has really got me confused.

Thanks

[Edit] Has anyone else come across this?

EDIT

You can probably ignore this - everything seems fine after a re-boot. I wish I could benefit from a re-boot ...

---------------------------------------------------------------

Oh no! It crashed approx 10 seconds after playing the game. Here's the Crash file:

It might mean something to somebody.

Hi Scraggle, tested your game, following my opinions: (chatting as Sitting Bull, don't worry, it's normal..)

1 - The game is VERY nice, everything is quality filled as a good granma biscuit
2 - Your code is an example of what we can do with DBPro, and in this way it should be shown in the home-page (not only horrible stuff, not Crysis or GearsOfWar)

about a tech feedback, I tested it over two PC, an old one (single core, 1Gb ram, GeForce 6800) and a newer (dualcore 6400, 4Gb ram, 8800 GTs512 XFX).

On both systems it runs well, somethimes it got some "steps" in the movement, like e little "lag". Nothing of really bad, but in this kind of game can be a lit boring..

The graphic is SO nice, I saw only one difect:

some explosions have this line (rotated textured plans?) that I don't like.

Continue like that man, really good job!

I am positive that I shot the bullet and it went straight through the small asteroid. I can't repeat it, but I don't think it is that much of a problem since no one else has come across it. I just said it because I thought if it was fixable, you should fix it.

does it help if I say that I was at and angle to the left of the screen shooting a small asteroid (the only on left) that was silver to the right of the screen. The bullet hit is dead on at about a 45 degree angle. I have no idea if it helps.

@Lucka
Thanks very much

@pm
You can't repeat the problem,
Nobody else has had the problem,
I've never had the problem ...

I'm going to say, there is no problem
Thanks for the feedback

I don't know what is causing the odd explosion effects. I haven't come across the problem. Does it happen a lot?

Super nice! I <3 space games. I love the way the ship banks when you turn, if you don't mind I'm going to add banking to my game ^^.

Looking forward to seeing the updates.

Man, why are all your games so polished right from the start?

Makes my 4+ year long project look all cruddy and such. I don't like you.

By the way, great work so far it's nice and smooth even on my junky system. If I try to replay I get an error about a music file missing, but I assume that will be fixed when it becomes more of a full game and less of a demo.

I'm not a real programmer but I play one with DBPro!
