I got one

Well this is one of the first things did, that would be so very hard with just a mouse.

He is a large bear and he will do anything to get his porridge back! Haha, tell me what you guys think. It took me about four or five hours to do and I ended up with 35 Layers haha.

[Edit]

Ok well the image is a lot bigger than I thought lol. Also, I still have to work a little more on the fur on his head.

Wow! That's neat!

It would really top it off if there was some snow (Or so I'm guessing it is ) on the bear thing itself. Otherwise, that's briliant!

Looking good so far! What tablet do you have?

If you are using photoshop, you can turn brush dynamics on in the brush pallet, To bring it up, just hit F5.

On a second look I think you may have. Some of the brighter strokes didn't seem to have any on, but looking closer you can see they do.

My bad.

Once I get my new pc I may get a little bamboo for myself, basically to sketch stuff out on the computer. I can color it + shade it with the mouse.

If I could afford one, I would get a graphics tablet. I don't want to get a cheap one, because they require batteries for the pen that run out constantly, thus being both irritating and more expensive in the long run.

@nex - At the wacom site it says the bamboo pen doesn't run on batteries.

There are sweet 2000 dollar ones that have a screen, and they are huge. I'd love that.

True, but I've already said I cannot afford anything expensive such as a Wacom. £50 may not be expensive to you, but it is to me. I'm talking £20 or less here, max.

No, but other types of tablets have pens that run on batteries. The Wacom one runs on resonance.

Well, for 20 pounds I wouldn't buy a tablet if I were you. Will only end up frustrating you. Go and save until you CAN buy a normally priced one.

Most of the artist sites and tutorials I see they say the recommend the bamboo. It's relatively cheap for a tablet. ($70 ish)

Looks great!

I can only recommend Bamboo, got an Medium Sized one for christmas and I'm extremely satisfied with it! It makes much fun to work with and looks very nifty.

I also had a ~30€ one for some months, but it quickly broke and was of quite low quality. Don't buy something like that, you really feel the difference when working with a Bamboo (probably with all Wacom tablets, haven't used other ones though).

All wacoms feel pretty much the same. I honestly wouldn't advise going with another company for a tablet.

My first tablet was a Graphire3. A pretty good tablet to start off with. Never tried a bamboo, but I can imagine they will handle pretty much the same.

Recently just upgraded myself to an A4 Intuos3 Special Edition. It is a beauty.

Go and save? Save what though? I can't get a job (as stores etc. prefer 15 year olds - they can pay them less) and I don't get pocket money. I don't have an income. And my parents aren't going to spend £50 on something.

Hmmm, well, either wait for your birthday or do under the table jobs (babysitting, mowing lawns, etc.) or... maybe just beg people at your school or cash?

When I go to get a bamboo, do recommend I get a normal size or spend the extra money to upgrade to medium?

I don't have any experience with A6 or A4 tablets, but A5 seems to be the perfect size for me.

A4 is quite too large, I like to do everything off the reel. A6 on the other side could be too inaccurate and small to really work with it.

But then again, that is purely a matter of taste. I can't really say something about A4 or A6 as I never used them, these are just speculations.

Maybe someone has some more experience on this.

Thats fine, I'm probably going to get the small one, seeing it's the cheapest. Thanks for answering though.

I got the Bamboo because it was really all I needed and because tablets go from $70 to $400 haha.

Graphics tablet Wacom pen partner
http://snipurl.com/29aam
Cheap tablet.
Its from ebay. The only reason I used snipurl is because the link was massive! Think its a full graphics tablet not just a pen. Not sure.
Only £10 so far including postage!

nice work

i've got an old A6 graphire 3 which has given me excellent service for nearly 4 years now, i'll hopefully have a proper job soon and be able to afford an A5 version of the latest intuos tablet... and maybe one day i'll be earning an obscene amount of money to afford a cintiq screen.

To anyone planning on getting a tablet, wacoms are the only way to go, you'll only be frustrated by others.

5867Dude: That tablet is far too small to be useful for drawing, its for digitising signatures and things like that.

I don't have a sig, live with it.

I just got my Wacom Bamboo Fun A5 and do you realize how awesome it is? I can make stuff that I couldn't ever make before I just made this quick doodle to get myself comfortable with the tablet and while it isn't professional stuff, I think it's rather nice for a doodel Dunno who he is though.
But the tablet is so awesome guys, it's amazing

Between the IDrawGirls site and you guys, I have been inspired to pick up a Wacom

It was more like an early birthday present, but I got the Wacom Bamboo MTE450 (~$70) today at Circuit City. I have to say, I really like it! It was easy to install and so far has worked very well with various tasks. I can use it easily as an alternative to my mouse, it's does extremely well with Vista's handwriting recognition and it has added a whole new dimension to Photoshop CS3.

I am totally inexperience with using a tablet, so my PS works have been... well, picture a preschool kid'd drawing on the fridge But I'm getting better and practicing some. Hopefully tomorrow afternoon I'll put something up to show you guys (if it isn't too wretched ).

The thing is very thing (but still great quality) and very light. I still have to figure out these function buttons on the top but...

AND HEY!!! I'm one of those fella's with a curious mind... and I can't seem to figure out how in the heck the pen doesn't need batteries!? How is that possible if there are buttons on the pen itself, not to mention the pressure sensitivity. If it was just read by the tablet, and not the pen, I would be able to draw with my finger. But that's not the case. Someone explain this to me before I go nuts

Eh, it's okay for my first attempt at something serious. The shadow is all wrong, and it should of had a little more gradient but oh well. Not bad for a simple ball.

I have some tutorials and some timelapse videos of my sketching stuff in PS with my new tablet on my channel(*cough* http://youtube.com/user/SebastianK94 *cough*)
If anyone wants to check them out. Soon going to try and learn how to draw complex muscle anatomy, going to be hard.
