Although the DS is pritty cool, Im currently thinking of exchanging my Nintendo DS for a PSP, Mainly because i want better music and Video Control, im wondering what the difference is between an old PSP Fat and the new PSP Slim, Is it just the size thats different?

I think the slim also has better battery life.

But personally I'd keep the DS, and go buy a MP4 player for peanuts .

Seriously, there are some great DS games, and more on their way, like Skate, Guitar Hero, Trackmania. PSP games just don't cut the mustard IMO - plus I seriously think that Sony's designers have an extra joint in their thumbs.

I've already got an MP3 Player for the DS, and a Video Player on an R4 but due to the required format it can take a gig or 2 just for a small video file, At least with the PSP, can't it automatically play AVI's and MP3/4, also a PSP can have up to a 4GB Card, on my DS, i've got a 1GB Card, Maximam it will accept is 2GB, PSP also has the bigger screen which is much better for Video.

About the only game i play on my DS is "41 in 1", which is good for playing Board and Card Games due to the Touch Screen, But thats about all i use my DS for, 1 game and MP3's.

PSP also has its Built in Web Browser and im too cheap to buy the Opera Browser for the DS

I've used 2GB cards in my DS.
Also what are you using to convert your videos? Seriously SUPER is the only way to go! Makes the video's really small and smooth! I think it's made by erightsoft.
Check it out. Also I agree with Van the games rock on the DS!

That would be perfect for me as i've got about 3 or 4 gig of music on my pc.

Im looking on sites that have Classified Ads at the moment, theres plenty of old fat PSP's, but vertually no Slim ones, But i should be able to get a decent one as i've got a Zenda DS, (Gold Color), R4 with 1gb, MP3 Player, 1 DS game and 10 GBA games.

Ho well, Back to searching.

Unless something has changed the PSP can't play AVI files. Well mine has never been able to, you have to convert the files...

I have both systems and in terms of games the DS, not the PSP, has the better choice of games...

The slimline/lite version of the PSP has double the memory (if I remember correctly) over the original PSP released. You also need the slimline or lite PSP to use Skype, which is free in recent firmware updates.

If you already have or might consider getting a PS3 at any point then a PSP would be sweet as you can remotely connect it to your PS3 via WiFi and use 'Remote Play' to access videos, photos, music, downloaded PSOne games etc. Very nice.

If you want to hack it, to say play PS1 titles off the memory card

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=zpe6yQDJNvc

or N64 games

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=XMA6a9khRLI&feature=related

you'd probably be better off with an older 1.5 bios PSP as Sony is always trying to stop this kind of thing with later models.

Thanks, Quick Question, Are the cases changable on a PSP like on a mobile? If so then even a pink PSP Slim would be fine as i can just change the casing.

DS vs PSP, hmm... hard question, this really depends on which country you live in, since there are hundreds of PSP titles that don't get released internationally, the DS has an unfair advantage.

personally i love them both, i own both.
the psp slim has some different hardware placements, a better battery life, and it can hook up to a tv through a video cable port it has on it that the fat doesn't. The psp has some good games too like prince of persia and twisted metal, but the ds is great do not sell ur ds to get a psp save up. oh and just a hint if you get both, i have an old gba case that i can fit my ds in the front and my psp in the back where the gba games went. sorry for the rambling but i had an opinion.

Wait for the Pandora. It will blow both consoles' metaphorical socks off. Anyone seen the Youtube video of it running Wipeout in an emulator without even using the graphics hardware to render but still doing 130-140 fps? Goodness me, I want one.

The DS without doubt completely pwns the PSP. First off, the PSP is extremely uncomfortable to hold. Who on Earth designed that thing?? And as far as games are concerned, the DS has Mario Kart, Mario 64, Phantom Hourglass, Animal Crossing, Elite Beat Agents, Advance Wars, New Super Mario Bros, and tons others. Really I don't see any advantage to getting a PSP besides better graphics, which IMHO doesn't matter when you're dealing with a 4-inch screen anyway.

90% of statistics are completely inaccurate.

I tried homebrew for the PSP, its easy and fun. I imagine it'd be harder for the DS (Keep that in mind if you try out homebrew).

The PSP slim also has larger memory, but is also (from my understanding) harder to get homebrew to work on. If you aren't interested in homebrew get the PSP slim. I *had* both a DS and a PSP, but I sold them a while ago to get the sum of $120~ (separate times though, so each time I had only about $60~).

My DS was fun, but my PSP was better for me. It was funner, and it had the games I liked, not pokemon (The new super mario bros sure was awsome though). I'd personally rather have a PSP than a DS, but 3 years ago I would've prefered a DS to a PSP mainly because 3 years ago I was much more into mario games.

Hope any of that senseless rambling helped.

Cheers,

-naota

Not really, with the cheapest option, an R4, you just stick the .NDS file on a SD card then select it on the DS. Some things take a little more effort, like ScummVM and Quake etc, but they are worth the hassle if you like those games, ScummVM works great on the DS. Emulators tend to be very easy to setup, just keep a folder with roms in, SpeccyDS is great, the screen is just the perfect size for speccy emulation.

In my opinion DS has better Homebrew and there is games that are good if you look for them. But there is also couple of good games in PSP.

Im gonna get PSP just for few games(FF:CC, FF, KH:BBS) and because of that it can play PS1 games.

But yeah.. Ive had fun with my DS

I think the PSP would be much more comfortable with one of those joypad skins, then your holding it lower and your thumb isn't being bent too much.

PSP's a great little machines, but beyond Poco Loco and GTA I don't really play it. Maybe I just need to get into the homebrew on the PSP more, kinda spoiled with some of the stuff on the DS, speaking of which...

Someone just made an art package especially for pixel art on the DS!

Pretty cool little app, been wanting something like this since I got a DS! - it's actually a very smooth and neat package, more so than any other DS art package I've tried (I've tried about 6 or 7 so far).

I will admit that Homebrew is Excelent on the DS, I even have Descent, Doom, Quake, Lemmings and Duke Nukem 3D, All thanks to Homebrew, but as a Media System specificly for Music and Video, The PSP wins hands down

I wouldn't mind trying this on a PSP

Windows XP

Windows Vista

Theres even Linux and MacOS both available for the PSP, DS can still do this, I've seen it with an Old Mac Design, but you would proberley need a memory expansion, And bigger screen helps the PSP again here, but not to worry as it Sony have any sence then they will add a touch screen on the next version of PSP

I've listed a few Videos for getting OS's on PSP

Windows Vista
Windows XP
Windows 98
Windows 95
Windows 3.11
MacOS X

Some of these will apparantly only run on the Slim PSP, Not the origional one, I've not watched all these, but there are lots of others like how to get Halo 3 on PSP.

Yeah, they're really just skins except for the Win95 one, which takes forever to load up and is not very useful.

Halo3 on PSP is just a joke. Does anyone actually think Halo runs on a PSP?

MSon, come on, at least watch these videos and don't just post it as fact when it's clearly not.

It could be Remote Desktop.. If not then its fake.
Also those OSes are just skins and also whats the point using them while you dont have mouse or touch screen.

PS. Thanks Van B for the pixel art proggy

Most likely a video on the PSP, seems the usual way to make these lame fakes, except for that homebrew version of Halo that looks terrible, which really can't count for anything.

I mean if you watch that Halo3 clip the GameTrailers logo appears at the end!

Ah. Thats a video then. But there would be some changes that homebrew remote desktop is released for 360. At least there is for PSP and DS and i think there is for PS3 too.

It's not true that you cannot put Halo 3 on your PSP. Supposedly, it's actually relatively simple to do it, only requires a bit of effort from your side.

I'm about the GBA, and the PSP's shape and layout brings back the GBA feel. Nice screen, sleek shape, lots of features if you get bored of games, easy AND cheap way of mass storage, and some hidden gem games.

I've just learned to tune out people who use the word "better" when it comes time to a personal preference.

I've personally just got into Daxter and gotta admit that it's definitly one of the great ones.
