If you're programing an OS you should just make it use .exe files...

You might have some success if you spend millions of hours programming a fully comprehensive x86 emulator; whether it would be of a usable speed or if there would be enough memory available to do anything is a different matter.

Wait a couple of years for phones to double as full-mini-computers with quad core processors. Its not that far away.

Um thank you for the cynical posts i'm sorry maybe i'm being a little too hopeful. For the post about using exes for my os it does im just trying to get my os onto a phone to make it portable. Maybe i'll just wait until I get into *personal info here* grade next year, im taking javascript there.

No, you wont be able to run exes on a phone. Closest you'd come is a custom exe format on Windows Mobile devices, and you already said you don't have a smartphone.

Just FYI, .exe isn't a suitable format for an OS, as it actually contains data which is parsed by the OS. If you want to write an OS, you'll need to have it as raw machine code (not code it in machine code before anyone claims I said that) so the computer can read it itself.

DosBox works on pocket pc phones: http://pocketdosbox.sourceforge.net/

But honestly, and exe will not run at a reasonable speed on anything other than a computer, just look at windows 95 or 98 running on pocket pcs.

If you are trying to make an OS for a phone then I suggest learning alot of C or C++. Then maybe get familiar with how linux works (it's open source in C) or (since that will probably take years to accomplish) maybe just make a simple interface program for a pocket pc phone instead. I'm sure that will be almost the same thing that you're going for.

ok well thank you that clarifies some things for me. by the way, what do you mean having it as raw machine code, ive never heard that. how would you do that, is it another language id have to learn?

also, i am learning c++ right now but it confuses me a bit because the commands dont make sense with what they do. ill just give up on making my OS mobile and keep on the computers thanks anyways everyone.
