I have an .avi file that I converted from a animated image I want to use as a cut-scene. I have included the striped down code I used for the load/play command for the .avi. When I run the exe it errors "could not load animation line 34" or shows a black screen and return to the editor. Am I leaving out additional commands to play .avi files? Do I need to use "C:\blah\blah\start.avi" instead of pointing it to my "avi" folder in my work folder?

Any help playing .avi(or any other animation format, for that matter)files would be greatly appreciated.

I apologize for the noob question, but I can't figure it out.

Thank you

.avi files aren't supported by db so you can't use them without doing some substancial coding, someone has tried but gave up

.AVI files are supported in DB and work well...We use them in our program just fine. ^_^

If you have saved your DB program in the same folder as the animation, then your program will work.

If not you need the path....... Like this:

Load animation "C:\folderwhereaviis\avistart.avi",6
play animation 6

It will work honest.

ReD_eYe, they are supported, the load animation help file uses .avi files as well as DVD files

Angeleyes, Those are the exact commands I was using. It will not play the .avi file. I encoded it to an .avi with Divx Pro, do you think that could be my problem? .avi files supported but not Divx .avi files? I will try again tonight.

Thanks for the help

The command reference states you must use a number between 1 and 32 for playing animation files. Does that mean you can only load and use 32 animation files? Is there a way around that limit? To use more animation files than the 32 limit?

Thank you in advance

One more question...trying to sort this out. I ask this only because I don't has a firm grasp on conditional statment in DBPro yet, or I would just try it myself

Could I use something similar to this code(using non-coding terms just in my examples, of course)to get around the 32 file limit? Can you assign the same number to differnet animation files if they are not loaded or playing at that time in the program(as in my example)?

Thanks Mattman,

I was hoping that it could be done that way

I was told on another forum, that it was not possible to do it the way you showed in your code. So I tried to find other ways around the limit. I was confused as why I couldn't delete animation files and re-use the numbers, and I am glad you have shown me it can be done.

Thank you very much.

It was on the RealGameTools Forum, the US distributor for DBPro. I thought that limiting a game design program to only 32 animation files would be almost useless in my book. On other platforms, I sometimes use almost half that just in my developer/intro/title screens.

Thanks again

Yes.....Matman is right, you can do it like that.

As for the codex..... Sorry, your out of luck!
AVI files are just fine, and so are FLI (as far as I know), but DIVX....I dont think so.

Just convert it using a diff util...... Even windows movie maker will do it.

Mary

PS: if your still haveing trouble....Let me know and you can FTP it to me and I will convert it for you ok. ^_^

Thank you Mattman and Angeleyes for your help in clearing that up.

I believe the Divx codec was my problem, so I have everything under control..for now

Thanks again
