Hi

I opened up my browser one morning and my bookmarks have all been wiped. I searched for them through the windows search and got the empty favorites folder.

How do I find them again?? Why did this happen??

Are you using Firefox or IE? If your using Firefox, might get something useful out of this: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Lost_bookmarks

Search around too, I bet other people have had the same problem.

Sorry to hear that though, I would go nuts if my bookmarks disappeared.

Followed that whole page you gave Sid, they are gone gone. Even the "backups" firefox made are backups of the wiped bookmarks.

Ugh, years of great links and finds on the topic of everything. This is probably gonna sink in and hurt even more when I try to go back and find everything.

I've pretty much given up on bookmarking things, i just have some quicklinks to my most visited sites.
Might be best to manually back them up every now and again.

Get a http://del.icio.us account and delicious bookmarks plugin for Firefox. You can bookmark all you want and access your links from different computers and not worry about them getting wiped.

Jeku's idea sounds pretty solid. I recommend backing up your bookmarks as well. Heck, even backup you backup's.

Well, it's the only decent way I can have my bookmarks at work and at home. With the delicious firefox plugin your links appear up there with the regular bookmarks.

its some kind of bug in the firefox due to some default bookmark file replacing the profile one.

i am sure everyone has suffered from it. I did many times
