First game i've tried making on x10, and I get an error whenever i try and build it - could someone please check it out and help me correct whatever's wrong with it?
It runs in 'test game' mosde 100% fine...
I was going to post this in the bug's forum but it said v1 only, so I hope this was the right place
Obviously the level is nowhere near finished, just wanted to see how what i've made so far runs...
Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated!

You said it displayed an error, so it must have come up with something, the program doesn't just fail for no reason.

Just tried building it again, and all it says is "this application has encountered a problem and needs to close. If this problem persists, please upload and FMP level to the FPS bug forum..." etc - the error seems to happen at the 'saving and optimising universe' bit

Does this map have any custom media in it?

Check your file permissions where the built game is being written.
If the permissions aren't right then it may be causing it to fail.

no, i might have used one floor segment from a model pack, but apart from that it's pretty basic atm - and i'm writing to my desktop as an administrator, so that shouldn't be a problem - can u see any problems with the map itself?

sry don't know hot to edit, i meant 'official model pack' although it might be from x9, not sure - but i thought there were only problems with entities, not segments anyway, and like i said, it runs 100% fine in test mode...

Look to the far left of your post. See User Name?
Now look below that. See Joined? Location?
Now look below that. See an Edit Post link?
There you go.

Well, that makes testing inacurate if we do not have that model pack.
Even if the program ignores the missing file; we are not testing the same conditions that exist in your build.

Remove any custom media and try it again.
If it works, then you have a clue as to what it causing the problem; the media.
If you still have bugs, then it would be a map that we can test too.

Well I took that off and the underscore too, and used factory.fpm like the first download.

I just tested the game twice (I fell in that hole 1st time) and then built it with no errors.

I am going to test the built game now.

EDIT
Works great on this end, so I don't know what to tell you other than USER ERROR!

Quote: "First game i've tried making on x10"

Are you selecting a NEW NAME when you build?
Did you make sure that you had your map selected for the build?
What Texture settings did you use?

Thank you! it's really weird that it's not building for me then, just tried building 'simple' again to confrim that the building process does normally work for me - what do u thinks going wrong?
oh do u mean the hole from the top way? yeah sorry, that's where the level's going to continue from, lucky I did try building now though, as i may have ended up wasting even more of my time T_T

*EDIT*

yep, called it 'Factory.exe' for now - kept that name when testing simple again and it works 100% fine
and yep, selected the map (tried both versions now ofc) - i'm relitively experienced as i've been using x9 until a few days ago...
texture settings = best/high (just got a new pc, which i bought purposely for x10 >.< ) and same as before, those settings work 100% fine for simple, and in test mode...

Thanks for testing it for me!

Ok then you know what you are doing when building.

This is very strange.

Its just really frustrating ya know, as i've been saving up for a pc good enough since i heard about x10; and now i finally have everything, there's no garentee any of the games I make are actually going to build T_T
Thank you so much for your help - if anyone else has any other ideas, i'd love to hear them!

One more thing....try another simple map that you create.
Make it just one small room, and then build it.

I am curious if your editor can build anything other than the simple map.

ARGH!!!
I have spent all afternoon making another game (this time arena) - and good news is that it built fine (tried the other one again, but still no luck T_T) - but now the built game doesn't seem to load properly, the loading bar gets to green but never seems to get any further T_T

I tested your map from above also and it works fine for me also, do have X9 installed on your PC as well as X10, if so what order were they installed, you can also try reinstalling the DirectX 10 version that is on your FPSC X10 DVD and reinstall FPSC X10 also then update it to 1.08, just save your new map. Your PC specs look good you should not have any problems running X10, it could also be a sound card driver or somthing silly like that giving you the problems as well, my PC is similar to your I just have a Phenom 9850 and a Geforce 9800 GTX

Thanks a lot for testing my map - I recieved my PC only a few days ago, and all I have done is update my drivers - i only have x10 on this pc.
I tried uninstalling/reinstalling everything but still no luck T_T
Could u please do me a massive favour and try building the (arena) map I spent all afternoon making to see if it runs on yours?
(for some reason the fog colour won't seem to save as being green not blue when underwater?)

Thanks a lot for testing it for me, but this isn't good news about my PC then T_T What should I do..?

Silver, yeah, thats the exact screenshot I get when trying to build the first game I posted, but 'Alien Arena' builds fine, it just seems to freeze when loading up for me...

Thanks guys for all your help so far, I really hope we can get something sorted!!!

*EDIT* - The plot thickens Been making an arena today, using only basic WW2 segments/entities - this time I got the same error in the same place ('saving and optimising universe') but this time when testing, not even building! Well, just out of curiosity, i took out the two 'window grand' segments i placed in the level, and it tested fine - how weird is that?
Why is this software so damn temprimental? I'm only using 2 basic segments, and 2 enties (door/windows) and it managed to even screw that up! I found x9 just as bad, thats why I reguarly save and test now...
Sry, i know it's really annoying when people whine, it's just increadably frustrating...

*EDIT 2* - How do you edit light colour/range for arena maps?

Hi all,

this is my first forum message in tgc but i have x10 since it came out and i like it allot.
But like all of the others i am also experiencing some bugs here and there.
But i would like to comment on this post in particular becuz me too have this problem with the test map ability.
And i tried a few things and it seems that i only get that error in v1.08 when i reinstall fpsc x10 and only update to 1.01 it work just fine again.
But i also noticed in v1.01 when i go in fpsc x10 the desktop instantly give me the pop up saying that the windows switched in basic mode instead of aeroglass.
So that means the dreamscene also shuts down of just freezes it so fpsc x10 can run properly.
While in v1.08 it does not even give me the pop up warning and loading the test map takes a very long time and always crashes at the saving and optimising point of the load bar.
With the error just saying fpsc had to close for a error report bug to forum.
So my guess is that the v1.08 has some bug that the other version did not had in the past.
Anyway i hope that give u guys a clue in how this bug may occur.
My system specs are dated but not crap

Vista Ultimate x86
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400+ @ 2.4 gig
2 gig ram in dual channel
8800 gts 320mb

PS: in v1.01 the test game runs very smooth and good in v1.08 it went very laggy in graphical terms then but most of the times i never got it run in test on v1.08
