Hey all, I've been really craving a good space rpg game for quite a while now, but have failed at finding any that I'm interested in.

What I'm looking for is a sandbox style game where you can basically fly around and fight/trade/explore or whatever you want. A game with no real goal I guess is what I'm looking for. I don't care about the graphics, it can be 2d or 3d.

Anyone know of such a game?

I've played EVE-Online, all of the Escape Velocity series, Freelancer, and a bunch of little games that I didn't find too interesting. I loved EVE and Escape Velocity, but quit EVE because of the subscription fee.

X3: Reunion - oh almost forgot you can try the battlecruiser series at 3000AD.com it is a awesome game for sandbox mode, however the learning curve is about 2 months maybe more or less depending on how into it you get, its also a EXTREME simulation.

Universe at war is good if you can find a copy. Its really realistic as well, it can take an hour to break atmo if you are trying to leave a planet lol.

lol took me 3 weeks to get over that game.

Im also looking for a good game like this, but no monthly fee. Freelancer is good and X3 is confusing (spend 1hour on it and went, screw this)

Evochron Renegades. Period. If you ask me, it beats the crap out of X3 hands down, and it only costs $25 or something. Plus, it's probably the best game ever made in DarkBASIC yet. It has singleplayer, a little campaign if you want to and multiplayer support. It's 3D and exactly what you describe.

Well you need to get used to the controls the whole thing about X3 and the reason i like it is because its like a RTS/3D empire building game. because not only can you own your own factories and make your own weapons instead of buying them, but you can also build ships, trade goods or just fight and claim ships that enemy pilots bailed out of.

The way you play is how you want to play i use a mod called "Rogueys mod" because its just that awesome =) i can't get over the pretty graphics of the ships either...

Interesting, I shall have to check out these games. I just fell prey to a game I found called Jumpgate, which seems to be pretty good. It's a fairly realistic space mmo, only $10 a month and has a trial. Unlike EVE you actually get to fly manually which is kinda cool.

I just downloaded the demo of Evochron, it sounds great ^^, and I'm gonna give Starport a try as well.

Thanks for the answers guys xD.
