Has anyone else started using it yet? I moved over yesterday and love it. It feels SO much faster than FF2! I moved to Flock between FF2 and FF3 but got fed up with Flock being the slowest app on earth. It just ATE the computers resources alive, often consuming 100% of my Core 2 Duo 2.33Ghz!

FF3 seems nice though! Shame not 100% of add-ons are available yet - but the important one is (Firebug - if you get 1.2b1).

It feels faster? How much of the resources is it actually using? Just out of curiosity - FF2 does eat up some of my resources, heck all browsers do - I'm using a low spec laptop mostly for accessing the internet (well not at the moment, I'm on the 'family eMac', hence I'm not downloading it and trying it right now)

Either way, sounds cool and will download and try when I can be bothered to boot-up my laptop.

I like Firefox 3 better the the second one, but at last on my computer, it laggs . Do not know why. But except for that, I find it far superior to Firefox 2.

Three features I like:

* How it saves passwords is FAR better then anything in IE, Firefox 2 or Opera (it will appear at the top of the screen, like when it is blocking a file, and the site will continue, so you can login and see if you typed the right password before you have it).

* You can save the tabs when you close, so they will open again the next time you start it.

* It displays the content of the webhistory in a better way.

Seppuku Arts: On my work machine its using 191Mb RAM and 182Mb of VM Mem. FF2 used similar amounts. (This figure is after about 4 hours use, 5 tabs including this and 13 addons).

Mr Z: I completely agree - love the new password method, love the tab control and loving this history. I also love the improved Javascript engine - things like jQuery effects and SO much faster now!

Not bad then (the virtual memory that is), though 191mb is a little worrying, but that's probably due to your many addons. Though 191mb would probably explain the low performance I get when using the internet on my laptop.

I've been using it for a while now and I think it's an improvement over ff2. I especially like the quicksearch list for bookmarks that appears when you're writing in the url bar.

I just downloaded it, and I'm impressed already. The performance is about twice as good, I would say. I used to get occasional stuttering when scrolling and sluggish page changes on some sites; this seems to have been improved. Nice to see it's still getting better.

I really dislike the security certificate warnings in ff3. I can see that getting really annoying.

Ye, the self signed certificates are what makes it go crazy. For example, check out:

https://www.dragonground.net/

Not an issue of course for proper stores and whatnot, because you would get a proper security certificate.

But annoying when you don't want to buy one

Ohh I see now. Thats not TOO bad - but I did prefer the old method. This new way makes it far clearer for newbies and "parents" though... And its not TOO much of an inconvenience...

See, and I don't think so. With the new messaging it'll make a newb think that their security *has* been compromised, when of course it's almost no risk at all.

Of course, in a setting where the user needs to enter his credit card details, I guess I wouldn't be complaining about this message, so ye, it's hard to tell where to draw the line.

Had issues with confusing the certificates with the traditional "site not found" thing. It could be done in a much less confusing way.

When is FF3 released as an update for existing clients? I don't want to install it and have 2 versions of Firefox on my PC

Probably upon final release (likely this month).

Looks like they have enough bug fixes from RC1 to warrant an RC2 which looks due for June 5th (Thursday). Final ship should follow that.
http://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox3/StatusMeetings/2008-05-27#Firefox_3:_issues_for_final_ship

Mozilla are targeting a Guinness World Record for the most downloads in a 24 period when the final is released!

I think they copied the IE7 look a little too much...

Anyway, it loads faster then FF2 for me, and uses less memory space(Both use no add-ons, since I don't trust Add-Ons that much...)

I love addons - its the main reason I like Firefox!

If you do ANY kind of web development or are in the slightest bit curious about how a page works, get Firebug! Firebug SERIOUSLY rocks!

Yeah, Firefox has a feature that makes the computer hang every time they try to download it.

Sorry, just kidding with you.

You're right about the performance increase, I've installed it on my laptop - no slowdowns, not even when I left it, then put it on hibernate, left it - with 4 microsoft word documents and returned just now - FF2 used to be a bugger if I did that.

So FF3 is approved on this old banger of a laptop, which has 128mb RAM and is running WinXP SP2, so a round of applause for the Mozilla team there. Somebody's made an up-to-date browser that works fluently on crap computers.

IE7 does work fine. IMHO, FF3 works better. Especially with the addons such as Firebug. It makes my job and hobby a LOT easier.

Not entirely sure why you're posting about your love for IE7 and disinterest in FF in a thread about the release of FF3...

Didn't the EU sue MS for IE7 for something to do with their standards? Or am I mixing 2 articles up together?

I always had problems with IE - especially in terms of security, I've made the switch to Firefox and will never go back - simply because I get the piece of mind, knowing my software is going to be reliable. (Plus Microsoft seem to be making it a habit of releasing things that aren't ready/stable enough to be released)

But each to their own really, I've never trusted IE.

As for 'FF3 copying IE7', amusing as IE7 copied FF2, thus complete the circle of life. (Though the only 'copy' I've notice' is the forward and back button - I guess to satisfy the world of Vista users.

I'm waiting for the official firefox 3, rather than the beta, before I switch over.

ZekeGames: The Beta phase is over, its into Release Candidates now. Beta's are released with, potentially, major bugs. RC's tend to be releases with only minor bugs or released to a wider audience to attempt to expose unknown minor bugs.

I've been using it for a few days now and not noticed ANY bugs on either WinXP SP3 or MacOSX 10.5.3...

Really? Well, I'm still waiting for the official firefox 3 to come out.

EDIT:
Is the download system fixed? Because I hated the firefox 2 download system. Even after you changed it in preferences to download where you want to, alot of the time it glitches and says it can't save there! grr!

I never had a problem with the download system.

FF3 is excellent. Speed, ease of use, basically everything is better. Though all of the buttons on the forums saying thins like 'go' and 'last' have gone tiny...

Insert Name Here: Press Ctrl+0 (Zero). In FF2 when you zoomed in and out, it only did the font. In FF3 when you zoom it also changed image sizes too now. BRILLIANT for people with visual impairments.

INH: I suggested that because you said the images were smaller, I thought you might have accidentally zoomed out. Its quite easy to do accidentally - Ctrl + Mouse Wheel Scroll...

RC2 came out today. No noticeable difference but I assume they've fixed a few core bugs.

I had RC1 crash on me once - I was using Yahoo!Mail and clicked Check Mail before it had finished loading the page... or at least I assume that was the trigger, I cant reproduce it.

I love how it searches through your bookmarks and history when you start typing in the address bar...

You can also type in a topic or something... like say I wanted to find a link to Geek Culture, instead of typing in http://forum.thegamecreators... etc to find the link I can just type in Geek Culture and it will find a link containing that in the page title! Awesome

Oh yeah - it also turns out that FF3 passes the ACID2 test - something that I believe only Opera 9 and Safari 3 have managed so far. IE8 will - when it comes out. IE7 just makes a complete mess of it!
