I'm trying to put text onto an object, as in the text will be displayed over an object as if it is textured to it, and move with the object when the camera moves.

Now I'm not trying to texture an object, in this case a box, with words, I'd just like words to show over a specific object, as a locater per say. How would I go about this?

try object screen x and object screen y

eg
text object screen x(object_number),object screen y(object_number),"your text"

Another option is to have a plain which is textured with text and positioned above the object(s).
