Hi everyone,

Hope you're all doing well (and glad to see there is going to be another TGC conference this year, count me in!). Just wanted to pimp my new game really It's a weird little old-skool 8-bit retro remake called Cannon Fighter, that I can almost guarantee none of you have ever played in its original incarnation!

It's written in AS3/Flash, so you can play it online:

I included my development notes and some background behind it incase you feel bored and want something to read

Cheers,

Rich

haha Great. It really feels like an old game, and that is funny. I enjoyed playing it. Well done.

I found a little bug. If lose your last life while your bullet is in the air, you will not be able to shoot again. It is happening probably because the permission to shoot is given by the bullet when it explodes.

Cheers.

Hey Rich, I've never played this before and it's pretty fun. I get the same bug as 5Louiz (unless this bug was present in the original game and you just wanted to remake it as close to the original as possible )

I don't want to change the subject of this thread but are there any resources you would suggest for learning AS3/Flash? I understand from your previous thread on the subject that it's massively different to AS2. Any websites/books you would recommend?

Thanks and keep on coding.

Hi guys - I fixed the bug and uploaded a new version, so it doesn't happen any more. Not that I'm sure anyone will be rushing back to play it, but I couldn't leave that bug in there

Soapy - re: AS3 I learnt everything I needed through a combination of the two O'Reilly books: Essential AS3 and the AS3 Cookbook, they compliment each other extremely well. Keith Peter's AS3 Animation book is also brilliant. I literally just used them and the rest I found via google and the Adobe docs. Kirupa is a good forum, FlashKit too (bar the highly annoying ads, which still seem to annoy you even WITH AdBlocker running!). There are loads of great AS3 libraries out there you simply have to play with: Flint, TweenMax, CoreLib, AIA Animation, etc.

Cheers,

Rich
