I'm not sure how many of you know about this but Jason Hall, a former Monolith employee has started a new show on the web. And on a certain episode he gets a hands on with the fabled Duke Nukem Forever...

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/05/you-can-actually-watch-duke-nukem-forever-on-jace-hall-show/

The video's there, footage is towards the end. What do you guys think? It looks a lot like Prey to me, which is a good thing.

To be honest, I was disappointed. Theres not much to see in the video, I'm sure theres more to it than what I just saw, but from what I can see it looks like the usual UE3 garbage. Wheres the wide open world from the 2001 E3 videos?

Yeah, I was far more impressed by the supposedly in-game 2001 trailer. That was, and still is the most awesome piece of gaming I have ever seen. The graphics were just perfect too. Now it seems they have "updated" it to be even more alien for us oldschool gamers. But then again, "games" these days tend to just be interactive graphic demos. I would hate to see Duke Nukem take the same route, but they need to satisfy the younger generation I guess, whom will determine whether or not to try a game based on its graphical fanciness.

I have some hope I will be proved wrong though, that you can indeed have special uber fancy graphics and still have an amazing gameplay. It certainly must seeing how long they've been working on the damn thing. Expectations are pretty high.

Old school?!? What the heck are you talking about Grandma? There is no such thing as old school. It's all the same just things get changed not old. I saw the video too and man am I pissed at George and Co. It looks like the same old crap. The only thing that made Duke into the dirty digital foul mouth alien ass kicker he is today was through the in-jokes of everything around us, ALIENS, The Terminator, The OJ Simpson trial and my favorite, Bruce Campbell! Whats next we turn Duke into Harry Youngman with a Shotgun? All those people who helped George with this sissy in sunglasses left because it's gonna suck. Prey sucked, Duke Forever is gonna suck.

Well, RJ is out Leave a message. I meant the graphics today are too distracting, Prey would be a nice example as you brought that up. I not quite fond of today's rather distracting graphics. Old-school gamers tend not to focus on graphics as much because we grew up playing on 320x200 games and still thought that was the most fun games we've ever had the joy of playing.

Of course, that might boil down to it being our childhood and therefore what we did at that time naturally seemed far more enjoyable, but it doesn't change the fact that I can discover other games from around 1996 or whatever today that I have never played before, and still think it's better than most newer games with their awesome graphics.

I still play doom 2, played it just yesterday in fact. Much more fun than doom 3.

I thought Prey was too cheezy for my liking. You always see Jenny on about everyother screen you come across, like she's the only person abducted. You always hear her screaming whilst the hero shouts "I'm coming for you, Jenny". That would be OK, if it didn't happen 100 times troughout the game. Became old pretty fast.

The music was dull, not very interesting to listen to. This is a make-or-break for me. Good music can enhance the playing experience a lot.

And the main caracter isn't so bright. Here I am, crawling beneath the floor in a small passage, being stealthy. And then comes a big monster-thing walking across the floor (unbeknownst of my presence), and the hero shouts like a crazy mexican "WHAT THE **** IS THAT THING!". Is he trying to get me killed?

\rant

The graphics were good though.

Oh I thought the music for Prey was good--- the menu music was great. Also their selection of licensed music was cool too. Still haven't beat the game though.

Yes, that's true. The menu song and the jukebox stuff was great, but the music you hear otherwise while playing, the orchestric type, didn't do it for me. I did enjoy the radio-broadcasts. Haha, those wacky conspriacy theorists.

Cool show. I usually don't like the "American style" but this was put together really well.

As for the game, we'll see. It's probably good but is it up to the hype and worth the development time?
