okay so I bought a 256mb GeForce and installed it. It workes fine, but if i install the drivers that came on the cd they game me, when I reboot, my computer goes to 4bit(16 color) more, and 640x480. If i try to change it it immediatley changes back. Any Ideas?

well it worked....dont know why the cd driver didnt but whatever it works now. Now I just gotta test it on Jedi Outcast to see if the OpenGL error I used to have is gone or not.

Hmm, well I don't know how well a 5200fx would be for games, when I tried out one about a year ago, it barely played the sims 2 on low settings. We're talking about 10fps.

If you bought it at a store, you should probably return it. I'm saying that because you can get an 8400gs for 40 bucks off newegg.com, which is probably what you paid for that 5200fx locally.

Because when I got a virus years back, it was from a Windows Update of nVidia's latest drivers. And the 5200 is fine for playing Quake 3, (and therefore Jedi Outcast) as that's what I used to use on it. Full settings at 800x600, 30FPS, looked pretty good.

Heh, well, I'd rather play it on 1600x1200 full AA on max 300 fps

But uh, I didn't know how old that game was, so sorry about that. My point was, a card like the 8400gs plays a game like COD4 on low. And it's a sub 50 dollar card.

I highly doubt you could get a virus from windows update, unless your machine was already compromised.
