Been working on a few models recently with the intention of uploading them to the store. I also plan on releasing a skybox pack containing space scenes.

First up, the VF-119 Avenger Space Superiority Fighter. Polycount is 363. Texture is 2048x2048.

Primarily for usage in space combat, this craft is capable of limited operations in atmosphere.

To overcome it's lack of aerodynamic features that would be impractical in space, its shield generators instead switch over to provide an aerodynamic bubble.

It also possesses a unique wing configuration. The vessel is capable of rotating each independently, making it highly manoeuvrable and allowing it to land.

Primary weapons systems include the CHAU-98 'Incinerator', a 1.9mW rotary laser cannon named for it's devastating effect on ground targets, literally reducing them to charred ash in mere seconds.

The craft is also capable of mounting various anti-fighter and anti-ship missles, as well as bombs and additional laser cannons.

Just edited the first thread for clarity, polycount is 363, which i'd say is fairly low.

That is really good!
I like it a lot, reminds me of EVE Online with a touch of attitude added to it. And less fancy shaders, of course.

2048by2048 seems big for scenery but otherwise it looks nice.

3ds max 7 + Photoshop, which I guess is beyond the reach of most average people out there, although the GIMP and Blender/Milkshape will do just fine.

Also, in regards to the texture, using mip-maps, you don't actually lose any performance until you get close enough to view the full res texture (the full resolution isn't loaded into video RAM on the gcard). I can always add a low-res version anyway. I would suggest that other would-be modellers save texure files in .dds format for precisely this reason.

are you still able to buy 3DS MAX 7, and how much would it go for.
for the mean time i use my brothers 3DS max 9 (and the schools) to get used to modeling.
oh and can Zbrush create models by itself without the need for 3ds for a base object as its for cheaper and can turn out great results

Like I said, Blender and The GIMP. However, you can also use Gmax, which is almost the same. One of the addon packs contains a direct x exporter.

This will get you started:

Also search for a plugin called chilliskinner.

You will almost certainly have trouble concerning these apps, particularly with registering Gmax. So some initiative is needed here.

The wings will rotate, although I'm not sure how i'd go about setting that up in the fpi.
