I'm looking for a lightweight Paint replacement. I really like MSPaint, it just drives me nuts that it can't do an Alpha Channel for png files.

Does anyone know of a good replacement that's very lightweight like MSPaint is?

I have Paint.net and have used The Gimp, but both take a long time to open. I like how MSPaint opens instantly.

anyway... any suggestions?

I know what you mean about fast loading. I have Photoshop for the proper stuff, but I always keep a copy of PaintShop Pro 5 installed because it loads instantly is ideal for quick stuff. Of course, its not free but if you can find an old version (before it got bloated) I can recommend it.

Gimp is quite good and relatively simple, haven't really seen anything else I'm afraid. Wasn't someone working on a paint like program on dbpro?

I have corel painter which is very fast to load, it came free with my wacom tablet so I dunno if it is available to download for free anyway. I thought it was quite easy to use too and I love the paint brushes you get with it.

I got Paint Shop Pro 4.15SE free with a magasine... I'll check the license, see if it's legal to send.

And it is pretty good.

EDIT:

I'm afraid not;

I use PSP 11 at home because it cost only $80, which is a deal compared to Photoshop. I use Photoshop at work and I hate the interface anyway.

I can't help but with agree with you on the Photoshop front. I got CS/2 free, and it's diabolical. Slow, half of the features are inexplicably in something else called ImageReady, awkward as hell, bloated, hard to use. Just another Adobe product.

I found Paintshop Pro X2 for just £20! Impressive if you ask me

...which will turn out to be a pirate when it arrives. Same thing happened with my £20 Office 2003 disc and my £20 Macromedia Flash.

Always made me smile how the entirety of PSP4 with everything switched on fit inside the drawing area of PSCS2 when PSCS2 was as small as I could get it without stuff sticking out of the window. Not to mention that whilst PSP4 uses 3mb of RAM on standby and roughly 10mb when editing a 1024x1024 full colour image, PSCS2 uses 65mb on standby and over 120mb with the same image open!

Yes, and how old is PSP4? You'll find the newer versions of PSP will eat up just as much memory as PSCS3... I have PSP X10 and PSCS3 so I know.

Also, PSCS2 has waaaaay more features and power than PSP4. It's not really comparable.

Ok, find me one thing you can't do in PSP4 with a little more effort than it would take in PSCS2. In all my use of it, I'm yet to hit a situation whereby I need to use PSCS2 because of a missing feature.

I find PSP MUCH more intuitive as well. Even if you've never used something before, you know exactly where it will be, whereas with Photoshop, you have to search to find it.

I have Paint Shop Pro v.6 and it serves my purpose well.

Not so keen on versions newer than this.

!!! What are you talking about !?!
Paint is GOD just because of that, just because its simple to use, doesnt mean that it isnt amazing. Ha ha, I dont know, i just love it.

I also have Paint.net, and flash cs3, very cool stuff.

This is my WIP, not even ready for a WIP thread yet though.http://smallgroupproductions.com/

Paint would rock if it could do transparencies. I'm thinknig about trying to make a clone of paint with an alpha channel...

I love using paint for when I Printscreen and stuff. just a quick dump into paint, save it, and I'm good.

And offer better saving options (like jpg compression settings). That would be freaking awesome.
