I was wondering if anyone knew what engine was used to create oddworld abe's oddesey. I enjoyed the first two games a lot (I only played the first two). And I was wondering if anyone could suggest to me any other games that are similar to that type of game.

I'm new to game design and don't know if an engine like darkbasic could create such a game. And if I can find more games like it, it will help me to create one similar but not the same as I won't just have one game as a piece of inspiration.

Thanks guys, any help will be much appreciated.

The game likely used a very inflexible engine created specifically for the game, as the PS1 did not have the power to splash on CPU intensive things such as a flexible engine. The effort involved in porting the engine from the PS1 (if indeed you can even get ahold of the code) would make it not worth the effort. DarkBASIC certainly can create such a game, but not by itself. It needs someone with an idea as to what they are doing behind it.
