As some of you may have read i recently got an Nvidia Gefore FX5200. My question however is this: am i going to run into heat probelms? I was re-arranging my pci slots (to try and get a sound card to work) and touched my video card, and it felt....well....hot.... Is this card known for overheating? do I need(Read: Absolutley Required) to buy a heatsink?

the fx5200 should have a lil heaty sink and fan built on, no?
Ive never overheated mine back in the day. Maybe add some case ventilation if yours isnt up to snuff. also a pci slot cooler can help

hmmm, maybe I am confusing it with a different card but I coulda sworn it had a fan, at least first gen ones - maybe not. Either way I never overheated it but every case is different. Mine was in a box with a p3 slot one cpu, is yours in a box with a hotter cpu?

you could, aside from what I mentioned above, get a spot cooler - antec makes a nice one. you can mount it anywhere and it has a flexible wire arm to aim the fan anywhere. you could point it at your gpu heat sinks, combined with a pci slot cooler it should do well

Believe it or not, not everyone has cash to blow. Many of my friends use onboard graphics because they cannot afford anything better.

Wow those parts must be as solid as a rock to last this long. You'd be very lucky if you got an 8800GTX to last even 3 years, especially if you leave the stock fan on.

To be honest graphics cards do quite hot to touch, my x1950 pro generally reaches up to 45C, most cards can stand between 70 and 90 without any artifacts.

If you're really worried try this program: http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=51, it should tell you the temperature of your card, but if it comes up with an insanely high number than that means it's incompatible.

Via didn't go out of business, Intel sees them as a huge rival on the MID market.

Well, the fact you touched your heatsink and it was hot means it working very well. It's taking the heat from the card.
