so i got gears of war for the pc the other day and it runs alright...except the fact that it runs for 32 seconds(..yes i even recorded it) consistently. starting from the main menu, no matter what you do whether it be nothing, choosing single player, or video settings, after 32 seconds it closes and windows tells me 'program has stopped working'. im running this on a new laptop i just got. it has 4gb ram, 1.8ghz intel centrino core 2 duo processor, and nvidia 8800M GTS 512mb video memory. i KNOW this is capable of running gears of war. My laptop can run Crysis perfectly so im not too sure what the deal is.

thanks,
homey

That is really, really bizarre.

I can only assume it is leaking memory or something due to an out of date driver (?!)

Honestly no idea other than that as to why it would bail at the same point in time no matter what you did...

Very strange.

Man, I have heard ALL KINDS of horror stories just like this about GoW for pc, this must've been one heck of a sloppy port. Sounds like it still hasn't been sorted out yet. Sorry I don't have any advice, just chiming in.

hmmm...well im wondering if its some sort of check every 32 seconds the game makes. or it could be a memory leak. well the thing is is that whenever i got my laptop i got this bundle where i got a free game and the geek squad to 'optimize' my computer...big mistake. they told me they installed to OS, updated all drivers, vista (service pack 1), and patches for my free game(crysis). which is great and all but i feel i have to do this myself so i know what i have done. otherwise i cant track this sort of stuff down. and its getting frustrating as hell plus vista can already be frustrating at times. lol what a mess. im thinking of reinstalling but that takes FOREVER....i hope they have customer support.

I have had the game since launch and am unable to get past act 3 due to a bug that stops the game at the exact same point every time I try... All the patches have done, for me at least, is turn the game into a choppy mess when it ran nicely (apart from the bug) beforehand.

The fact that 6 months later they have yet to release a patch to fix the error (which if you read the official forum is quite prevalent) is atrocious...

i feel...ripped off. maybe they just want to collect our money for the production of gears 2.... i was really excited even though i have it for 360, i wanted more single player missions and make my own levels. now it seems like a joke.

I was really enjoying it too :-( Just tried it again and it died at the same spot... I did an uninstall and reinstall and ,as Homey said, the install process is ridiculously long but that didn't solve the problem either...

Well I know not to buy GoW until a proper patch is released - mind you my classmate's GoW kept cutting out after 30mins on his laptop. You'd think they'd fix those kind of bugs before release?

Mine always worked perfectly. Try exchanging the disk.

I did get a new disc... but it's not a disc related issue as once installed it only uses the disc to check it's the original at startup...
