just a quick question has anyone tried xna game development. I've downloaded a bunch of tutorials and I was just wondering how hard game development in xna was. In respect to darkbasic. I would think that as far as media is it would be the same. the only difference would be in the programming.

I've tried to install it, but I can't seem to use it. I think you need the pro edition of Visual Studio =( I wanted to create games for my Xbox 360 instead of PacMan and all those rubbish arcade games (except for Hexic HD =D)

No, it's integrated with VC#.net Express.

I've got a little 2D game I made following some tutorials, check back on my profile.....

XNA is my first step away from FPSC and into the prgramming world, and I've never used DBP, so I can't judge it fairly.....

It's easier than DarkGDK, I can say that much.....

I think Zidane/Gokz and Cian Rice are working on an XNA game, but for the life of me I can't remember the name of the project.

I have worked a bit with C#/XNA. From what I have seen, it is closer to "real world" game development then DBPro. This means that you will have to put in much more work to get the same effect you could get in DB. Also, I am not sure if you were looking at it for 2D or 3D game development, but from what I have seen, the 3D is lacking at the moment. The first version only had support for 2D, and 3D was really just added in the current version. Give it a couple more updates and it may become a real contender for commercial 3D games.

Also, you are locked out from using the Windows Live and Xbox Live network code unless you strike a deal with Microsoft. This means that your Xbox 360 games will not be online, and your PC games will have to have their own network library supplied or created.

Also, if you do not have any experience in an OOP language, C# may be a rude awakening. C# is 100% OOP, and very similar to Java. This makes some things easier, and then it makes some things require more coding. But pretty much in all cases, you will be dealing with more of the nuts and bolts with C#/XNA then you ever would be with DBPro.

Not really. If you choose to use DarkGDK with C# then the language is exactly the same with a different API.

C++ is more difficult than C#, so I agree with your statement if you use DarkGDK with C++.

@Erios-

When's the last time you looked at XNA? The 3D is not lacking. Some of the racing games I've seen are amazing. Also, upon research the new XNA allows you to make online games.

Well the reason that I'm asking all of these question is because I'm a 3d modeler and 2d artist. I have been struggling with programming tutorials for a year. and I would like to actually see my creations on the 360.

Yes, running your game on 360 costs $100 a year. Running it on the PC is free. $100 is cheap considering the cost of actually buying a devkit.

If your struggling with programming tutorials you should learn C# before you start using XNA.
